Established in 1989 by the prominent figure in the central Taiwan construction industry, Mr. Chen Ying-sheng, there is a natural lake called "DExing Pond" adjacent to the park. DExing Pond, originally named "Guai Zi Lake", is a habitat for frogs, and the sound of frogs is incessant in the summer. The name comes from the Hakka pronunciation of frogs, which is "Guai Zi". In the 48th year of the Republic of China, it was renamed DExing Pond. Located in Xihu Village, Sanyi Township, DExing Pond covers an area of about 10 hectares, surrounded by mountains, and boasts stunning scenery that rivals the famous West Lake in Hangzhou, China, thus locals also refer to it as "Xihu". Mr. Chen Ying-sheng envisioned creating a resort that combines the romantic fog scenery and wood carving art of Sanyi, akin to the renowned West Lake in Hangzhou, and thus named the resort "Xihu Resort".
