Shiqiangzai Neighbourhood Introduction
At the foot of Datu Mountain in Tamsui, there's an ancient residence offering delicious food and aromatic coffee, a culinary hotspot for poets. This is "Shiqiangzai Nei," the ancestral home of the renowned poet Li Kui-hsien, known for three generations. In 1871, Li Shan-shih, the ancestor, cultivated the land in Tamsui and Sanjhih, building a traditional courtyard with architectural features designed for defense against bandits and to ensure the safety of the household and livestock. Many of these characteristics remain today, preserved in the renovated tiled house known to locals as the Li family residence. With a history of over a hundred years and a spacious area of more than 4,000 ping, along with 23 century-old trees, it's a joy to relax, savor the food, and enjoy coffee here. The local specialties at Shiqiangzai Nei are highly praised among gourmets for their authentic flavors. Among the traditional dishes, the plain boiled free-range chicken highlights the natural sweetness of the meat, while the stir-fried cabbage and asparagus with shrimp are healthy and harmoniously balanced, allowing one's body to connect with nature through the diet and experience the joys of slow food. The old-fashioned stir-fried rice vermicelli and lotus leaf tofu are must-tries, showcasing grandma's culinary skills with a fragrant and rich texture that delights the taste buds.
