Shiqiangzi Neighbourhood Introduction
At the foot of Mount Datun in Tamsui, there is an old house, delicious food, and aromatic coffee, a gastronomic paradise for poet gatherings—this is “Shiqiangzinei,” the ancestral home of the renowned poet Li Kuixian, passed down through three generations. In 1871, Li Shanshi, an ancestor, built this traditional courtyard in Tamsui and Sanzi, taking into consideration security features against bandits and ensuring the safety of the household and livestock. Many of these architectural characteristics have been preserved to this day, resulting in the existing tile-roofed house that locals refer to as Li's family home, Shiqiangzinei. With a history of over a century, the space spans more than 4,000 ping and boasts 23 century-old trees, providing a pleasant environment to relax, savor delicious food, and enjoy coffee, a truly refreshing experience. The local specialties at Shiqiangzinei are deeply cherished by food lovers and receive high praise. Among traditional country dishes, the simple preparation of their boiled native chicken allows the natural sweetness of the chicken to shine through. The stir-fried cabbage and stir-fried asparagus with shrimp are healthy and balanced, connecting the body to nature and the dining experience to slow food enjoyment. Additionally, the traditional stir-fried rice noodles and lotus leaf tofu are must-tries, showcasing the rich culinary skills passed down from grandmothers, with an aromatic and intense texture that fully satisfies the palate.
