Wuji Zhiyuan Tianda (Tianyuan Temple) Introduction
Tamsui Tian Yuan Temple is located on the northwest side of the Datun Mountain Range, about 5 kilometers from Tamsui District. Established in the 1970s, the main hall of the temple enshrines the Supreme Ultimate Ancestor, with the primary deity being the Jade Emperor. In 1992, the "Supreme Ultimate True Source Heavenly Altar" was added, featuring a five-story hall that stands 200 feet tall, with a circular structure measuring 108 feet in diameter, presenting a magnificent sight. Each level of the hall is dedicated to various Buddhas of the Supreme Ultimate Realm. During the cherry blossom season, the grand altar beautifully complements the blooming cherry blossoms, making it a worthwhile visit. The complex of Tian Yuan Temple is built along the foothills of the mountains, facing the sea, creating a grand ambiance. The staircase design that follows the mountain's contours enhances the sense of layering within the complex, giving the temple a more solemn and majestic appearance. The Tian Yuan Temple complex can be divided into three main areas: the Supreme Ultimate Tian Yuan Temple at the foot of the mountain, the Heavenly Altar located halfway up the mountain, and the back mountain garden area at the highest point, each with its own unique features and picturesque views. As spring breezes blow, the cherry blossoms at Tian Yuan Temple quietly bloom, ushering in the most beautiful season of the year. The cherry blossoms are largely planted in the back mountain garden and around the Heavenly Altar, with different varieties that bloom at slightly different times. The mountain cherry blossoms typically bloom from late January to mid-February, while the pale pink Yoshino cherry blossoms around the Heavenly Altar bloom about a month later, attracting crowds for cherry blossom viewing. At night, the altar is illuminated, enhancing the beauty of the swaying cherry blossoms, creating a unique atmosphere.
