Wuji Zhenyuan Temple (Tianyuan Temple) Introduction
Tamsui Tianyuan Temple is located on the northwest side of the Datun Mountain Range, about 5 kilometers from Tamsui City. Established in the 1970s, the main hall enshrines the Ultimate Ancestor, with the main deity being the Jade Emperor. In 1992, the "Ultimate True Source Heavenly Altar" was added, a five-story sacred hall reaching a height of 200 feet and a diameter of 108 feet, presenting a magnificent sight. Each level of the sacred hall enshrines various Buddhas of the Utmost Realm. During the cherry blossom season, the grand altar and cherry blossoms complement each other, making it a worthwhile visit. The architectural complex of Tianyuan Temple is built in the hilly area at the foot of the Tian Mountain, facing the sea and showcasing grandeur. The stepped design that follows the terrain enhances the layered feeling of the complex, making the temple visually more dignified and majestic. The architectural complex can be divided into three main areas: the Ultimate Tianyuan Temple at the foot of the mountain, the Altar located halfway up the mountain, and the garden area at the highest point, each with its own characteristics and picturesque views. As spring breezes blow, the cherry blossoms at Tianyuan Temple quietly bloom, welcoming the most beautiful season of the year. The cherry blossoms are mainly planted in the garden area at the back mountain and around the altar, with different varieties each having a slightly different blooming period. The mountain cherry blossoms at the back bloom from late January to mid-February, while the pale pink Yoshino cherry blossoms around the altar typically bloom about a month later, marking the peak time for cherry blossom viewing. At night, the altar is illuminated, highlighting the swaying cherry blossoms and creating a unique charm.
