Wax Apple Braised Pork Rice Introduction
Established in 1975, this restaurant is a well-known old brand in the Sanchong area. The interesting name comes from the owner's nickname; during his childhood, he picked a wax apple during a traditional coming-of-age ceremony, which earned him the nickname "Wax Apple." When he grew up and started selling braised pork rice, he decided to use that as the restaurant's name. The braised pork chunks here are a mix of lean and fatty, tender and melt-in-your-mouth. The restaurant also serves a variety of flavorful side dishes, such as cabbage stew and braised tofu. Besides local residents, it is a favorite spot for many drivers. The Wax Apple Braised Pork Rice has been passed down for two generations and is located near the Sanchong District Office. The primary customer base consists of middle-aged laborers who engage in physically demanding jobs, leading to a lasting impression of the restaurant's offerings as "hearty meals." This can be seen in their signature dish, braised pork rice: the sauce is mostly made from fatty meat. While its aroma may not compete with other famous old shops, the fatty meat provides the necessary calories for laborers, satisfying the need for substantial meals. It has been featured in food reports by the non-profit organization, Extraordinary Exploration.
