Zheng Changhua Pork Ball Introduction
In Changhua County, there are records of oral history dating back to 1940 (during the Showa era 15). The current inheritors of Zheng Changhua Meatball, Yang Yalan and Yang Yazhu, are the grandchildren of Yang Yongxiang. After their father passed away at a young age and with many siblings at home, their mother and the eldest son decided to apprentice under a master chef in Lukang to learn traditional snacks—meatballs (in Lukang dialect). After completing a rigorous apprenticeship, they finally received the master's approval to begin selling their food on the streets, which marked the beginning of the four-generation legacy of Zheng Changhua Meatball. After 82 years and the tradition passed down through four generations, Zheng Changhua Meatball is now run by the fourth generation, consisting of the daughter, her husband, and their mother. What has been inherited in the fourth generation is not only the traditional flavor but also the earnest and grounded spirit of their predecessors. Even in the face of changing times and the gradual decline of traditional snacks, they embody the unique spirit of innovation and change of the people of Taiwan. They will continue to develop new techniques and provide a delightful experience with innovative flavors for this well-loved dish that has been cherished for over eighty years.
