Zhanghua City Guan Di Temple Introduction
Main Deity: Emperor Guan Historical Background: The Changhua Temple of Guan Sheng Di Jun, a county-designated historic site, was established in the thirteenth year of the Yongzheng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1735) by Qín Shìwàng, the magistrate of Changhua. The original site was located inside the South Gate of the county. In the fifty-first year of the Qianlong reign, Lin Shuangwen led a revolt against the Qing, and many temples and government offices inside the city were destroyed in the conflict. After the official suppression of the uprising, in the fifth year of the Jiaqing reign (1800), magistrate Hu Yingkui, along with scholars Zheng Shimo and Wu Dongsheng, proposed to relocate the temple to its current site.
