Guogou Tofu Pudding is a well-known tofu pudding shop that attracts customers from all over Taiwan. Although the shop is located in a remote residential area away from the center of Guogou, locals (those in the know) are familiar with it and can easily find this traditional, handcrafted tofu pudding shop. This is a reputable place, known as "the shop in the alley." The owner, Chen Tian-jin (born in 1943), was originally a farmer who cultivated a small plot of land and once ran a laundry shop. Due to the few customers in the countryside, after getting married, he shifted to selling tofu pudding for his family's income. From grinding the beans to creating soft and fragrant tofu pudding, everything is done using traditional handcrafted methods, self-produced and sold, ensuring authentic flavors and high-quality ingredients, which have earned a great reputation. Originally, Guogou Tofu Pudding only offered traditional and peanut flavors. It was not until the second generation, under Chen Kun-ming (born in 1975), that green bean and red bean flavors were added, each with its unique characteristics. The peanut flavor uses peanuts from Beigang, allowing customers to enjoy whole peanuts that are dense and melt-in-your-mouth. The green bean flavor features whole green beans that do not separate from the skin, tender and delicious without a gritty texture.
