Guogou Douhua is a well-known tofu shop that has gained popularity among customers from all over Taiwan. The shop is located in a remote residence away from the center of Guogou, but locals (in the know) are aware of and can easily find this traditional handmade tofu shop that offers a nostalgic taste. It is a store with a good reputation, known as "the shop in the alley." The owner, Chen Tianjin (born in 1943), was originally a farmer who cultivated a small amount of land and once operated a laundry. Due to the lack of customers sending clothes to wash in the countryside, he turned to selling tofu to support his family after marriage. From grinding the beans to producing soft and fragrant tofu, everything is done by traditional handcrafting, with homemade and sold directly, ensuring genuine materials and authentic flavors that have earned a good reputation. Initially, Guogou Douhua only offered traditional and peanut flavors. It was not until the second generation, under Chen Kunming (born in 1975), that two new flavors—mung bean and red bean—were added, each with its own distinct charm. The peanut flavor uses Beigang peanuts, allowing customers to enjoy whole peanuts that are creamy and melt-in-the-mouth. The mung bean flavor features whole mung beans that remain intact and tender, with no hard skin sensation. The red bean flavor also consists of whole red beans, which are soft, tender, and delicious.
