Guo Gou Douhua Introduction
Guogou Douhua is a well-known tofu pudding shop that attracts customers from all over Taiwan. Located in a remote residence far from the center of Guogou City, locals (insiders) are aware of and can easily find this traditional handmade tofu pudding shop that offers authentic flavors. The owner, Chen Tian-jin (born in 1943), was originally a farmer who cultivated a small amount of land and once operated a laundry service. With few customers for laundry in the countryside, he shifted to selling tofu pudding for the family's livelihood after marriage. From grinding the beans to making the soft and fragrant tofu pudding, everything is produced by traditional handmade methods, ensuring genuine ingredients and authentic flavors, which have earned a good reputation. Initially, Guogou Douhua only offered traditional and peanut flavors, but under the management of the second generation, Chen Kun-ming (born in 1975), two additional flavors – mung bean and red bean – were introduced, each with its own distinct characteristics. The peanut flavor uses Beigang peanuts, allowing customers to enjoy whole peanuts that are creamy and melt in the mouth; the mung bean flavor features whole mung beans that remain intact and tender without a hard texture; and the red bean flavor also consists of whole red beans that are soft and delicious.
