Guogou Douhua is a well-known tofu pudding shop that has garnered customers from all over Taiwan. Although the shop is located in a remote residential area away from the center of Guogou City, locals (those in the know) are aware of this traditional handmade tofu store that serves authentic flavors. This shop, often referred to as "the shop inside the alley," has built a solid reputation. The owner, Chen Tianjin (born in 1943), was originally a farmer who cultivated a small plot of land and even ran a laundry shop; however, with few customers sending their clothes to wash in the countryside, he transitioned to selling tofu pudding for the sake of the family finances after getting married. From grinding the beans to making the soft and fragrant tofu pudding, everything is crafted using traditional methods. With genuine ingredients and authentic flavors, the shop has earned a great reputation. Initially, Guogou Douhua only offered traditional and peanut flavors. However, when it passed to the second generation, Chen Kunming (born in 1975) introduced green bean and red bean flavors, each with its own unique appeal. The peanut flavor features whole peanuts from Beigang, which are dense and melt in your mouth. The green bean flavor retains whole green beans, which are soft and delicious without any hard shell feeling. The red bean flavor also includes whole red beans, which are tender and flavorful.
