Bai Shui Lake is one of the famous salt fields in Dongshi Township. Although it is named "lake," there are actually no freshwater lakes in the area. The name Bai Shui Lake comes from the geographical situation of the old salt fields. It was originally a salt field operated by a partnership between the Japanese and Tainan locals called "Zhangxing Company," which built a seawall in the area. However, after many years, the seawall was not properly completed, and with the arrival of typhoons, the outer seawall would collapse, causing seawater to flood the salt fields, resulting in the appearance of white waves, thus giving rise to the name "Bai Shui Lake." Currently, since Taiwan Salt Corporation implemented mechanization policies for salt production in 1983, it has transformed into a quiet traditional community. Due to years of land subsidence, the roads around Bai Shui Lake and Shou Island are submerged during high tide, causing many residents to leave due to the inconvenience. However, the area possesses a mysterious yet somewhat desolate beauty, combined with the breathtaking sunset sea views, which have attracted an increasing number of travelers, making Bai Shui Lake a rising attraction along the coast of Chiayi.

White Water Lake Introduction

Bai Shui Lake is one of the famous salt fields in Dongshi Township. Although it is named "lake," there are actually no freshwater lakes in the area. The name "Bai Shui Lake" comes from the topography of the old salt pans. Originally, the salt field "Zhangxing Company," a partnership between Japanese and Tainan locals, built a seawall in this area. However, after years of construction, the seawall was not completed properly, and every time a typhoon struck, the outer seawall would collapse, causing seawater to backflow, creating white waves on the salt fields, hence the name "Bai Shui Lake." Currently, due to the mechanization policy implemented by Taiwan Salt Corp in 1983, it has transformed into a quiet traditional community. Over the years, land subsidence has caused the roads around Bai Shui Lake and Shou Island to be submerged during high tide, leading many residents to leave due to inconvenience. However, the mysterious and somewhat desolate beauty of the area, combined with the stunning sunset sea view, has attracted more and more tourists, making Bai Shui Lake a new emerging attraction along the coast of Chiayi.
