Bai Shui Lake Introduction
Baishui Lake is one of the famous salt fields in Dongshi Township. Although it is named "lake," there are actually no freshwater lakes in the area. The name Baishui Lake comes from the old geographical formation of the salt pans. In the past, the salt pan "Zhangxing Company," which was jointly operated by the Japanese and Tainan locals, built a seawall in this area. However, after years of construction, the seawall was not fully completed, and during frequent typhoons, the outer seawall often collapsed, causing seawater to flood in and creating waves on the salt fields, hence the name "Baishui Lake." Currently, after the Taiwan Salt Corporation implemented the mechanization policy in 1983, it has transformed into a peaceful traditional community. Due to years of land subsidence, the area around Baishui Lake's Shou Island now experiences road flooding during high tide, leading many residents to leave due to the inconvenience of living there. However, the area's mysterious yet somewhat desolate beauty, combined with the breathtaking sunset sea view, has attracted more and more tourists, gradually making Baishui Lake a rising attraction along the coast of Chiayi.
