Army Restaurant Introduction
In 2015, Taoyuan City's Gold Medal Restaurant was thought by many to be run by someone who grew up in a military dependents' village or a descendant of mainland Chinese, but in fact, the owner is a native Taiwanese. The boss's wife is a straightforward sister from Fuzhou. The couple has been in the restaurant industry for a long time, originally operating a roasted meat shop before transitioning to serving noodles from the military dependents' village. To perfect the flavors and texture, the owner specifically learned how to make noodles and side dishes from the mothers in the dependents' village, attracting food lovers to come for a taste. Due to their deep roots in the local community, it has become a popular spot for neighbors to eat out. The menu at the Army Restaurant is almost entirely composed of noodle dishes, with the most popular being the home-style noodle dumplings, which are chewy, rich in ingredients, and have a sweet soup base, making one bowl very filling. The signature Army Dry Noodles are also a hot item, mixed with black pork lard for a fragrant taste. The must-have side dishes to go with the noodles, such as braised snacks and small plates, are refreshing and not greasy, making them endlessly enjoyable. While waiting for the dishes to be served, it is often the best time to appreciate the shop's decorations, which are filled with a nostalgic atmosphere, featuring a dazzling array of national flags, portraits of the Founding Father and Chiang Kai-shek, military uniform insignias, the Dazhong Baby, and the street signs of the military dependents' village.
