"Beimen Fried Cakes," a street food that has been passed down through four generations since the Japanese colonial period, started with the first-generation owner selling from a cart on the streets. Now operated by the fourth generation, it often has long lines on weekends. Located near Changhe Palace in Hsinchu City, it's about an 8-10 minute walk from Cheng Huang Temple. The storefront may not look significant, but it holds many childhood memories for Hsinchu locals. Made fresh to order, the ingredients are authentic! Each piece is hearty and affordable, with a crispy exterior that retains the freshness of the ingredients. Even though it's fried, it's not greasy at all. The nostalgic rice cake, similar in texture to fried rice cakes, is highly recommended, paired with a sweet and slightly spicy sauce. This taste of nostalgia in Hsinchu is definitely worth trying, no matter how long the wait.
