Nanliao Fishing Port (Nanliao Old Port) Introduction
Nanzhuang Old Port is located on the coastal area of the northwest suburbs of Hsinchu City, not far from the city center, making it very accessible. Established in 1981, Nanzhuang Old Port and its surrounding settlements were among the early development areas of Hsinchu City, witnessing the historical development of the city and holding important historical and cultural value. Nanzhuang Fishing Port is also the terminal for fishing boats returning from both the north and south, and in the past, it was a hub for seafood distribution from various locations, earning it a spot among the "Twelve Scenic Spots" and the elegant title of "Nanzhuang Returning Sails." In 2000, for the purpose of cultural landscape preservation and regional industrial development, the urban plan was amended to ensure the conservation of Nanzhuang Old Port, along with a regeneration development plan for the Nanzhuang Twin Ports with the New Port, making Nanzhuang Fishing Port an excellent leisure destination for the public on weekends and transforming it into a tourism landmark in Hsinchu. Surrounding the Nanzhuang Fishing Port is a long breakwater painted with marine ecology, which is a symbol of the port; strolling along the breakwater to enjoy the sunset over the sea and feel the sea breeze is quite pleasant. The current Nanzhuang Fishing Port resembles a smaller version of Danshui Fisherman's Wharf, and it has become a docking point for private fishing boats, offering night fishing or squid fishing activities. Additionally, under the planning of the Hsinchu City Government, a 17-kilometer coastal scenic area, along with attractions such as Fisherman's Wharf, the Fishing Village Cultural Museum, and the Circular Port Trail, revitalizes and preserves the cultural assets of the old port, thereby integrating the potential for tourism development of Hsinchu Fishing Port and making the Nanzhuang Fishing Port area a fantastic destination for public outings during weekends.
