Nanliao Fishing Port (Nanliao Old Port) Introduction
Nanzhuang Old Port is located in the northwest coastal area of Hsinchu City, not far from the city center, making it very accessible. Established in 1981, Nanzhuang Old Port and its surrounding settlement are among the early development areas of Hsinchu City, witnessing the historical development of the city and possessing significant historical and cultural value. Nanzhuang Fishing Port is also the endpoint for fishing boats traveling north and south, and it used to be a distribution center for fish catches from various regions, thus earning it the title of one of the "Twelve Scenic Spots" and the elegant nickname "Nanzhuang Returning Sails." In 2000, due to the need for cultural landscape preservation and local industrial development policies, urban planning changes were made to ensure the preservation of Nanzhuang Old Port, along with the regeneration development plan for the Nanzhuang Twin Ports with New Port, making Nanzhuang Fishing Port an excellent destination for public leisure on weekends and a tourist landmark in Hsinchu. The outer perimeter of Nanzhuang Fishing Port features a long breakwater painted with marine ecology, which is a symbol of the port. Strolling along the breakwater to enjoy the sunset over the sea and feel the sea breeze is very pleasant. Today's Nanzhuang Fishing Port resembles a smaller version of Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf and has become a docking point for private fishing boats, offering night fishing or squid fishing activities. Additionally, under the planning of the Hsinchu City Government, the coastal scenic area spans 17 kilometers, along with tourist facilities such as the Fisherman’s Wharf, Fishing Village Cultural Museum, and Circular Port Trail, revitalizing and preserving the cultural assets of the old port, and further integrating the tourism development potential of Hsinchu Fishing Port, making the Nanzhuang Fishing Port area an excellent destination for public outings on weekends.
