Nanjiao Fishing Harbor (Nanjiao Old Harbor) Introduction
Nanliao Old Port is located on the coastal area in the northwest suburbs of Hsinchu City, not far from the city center, making it very accessible. Established in 1981, Nanliao Old Port and its surrounding settlement were among the early development areas of Hsinchu City, witnessing the historical development process of the city and holding significant cultural and historical value. Nanliao Fishing Port serves as the terminus for fishing boats returning from both the north and south, and in the past, it was a distribution center for fish catches from various locations, thus earning its place among the Twelve Scenic Spots and the nickname "Nanliao Returning Sail." In 2000, in response to the need for cultural landscape preservation and regional industrial development, an urban planning change was implemented to ensure the preservation of Nanliao Old Port, alongside the regeneration plan for the Nanliao Twin Ports area with Xinguang, making Nanliao Fishing Port an excellent leisure destination for the public on holidays and developing it into a tourist landmark of Hsinchu. The outer perimeter of Nanliao Fishing Port features a long breakwater, painted with marine ecology, which is a symbol of the port; strolling along the breakwater to enjoy the sunset over the sea while feeling the sea breeze is very pleasant. Today, Nanliao Fishing Port resembles a smaller version of Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf, currently serving as a docking point for private fishing boats, with activities such as night fishing or catching baby squid. Additionally, under the planning of the Hsinchu City Government, the 17-kilometer coastal scenic area, along with facilities such as the Fisherman's Wharf, Fishermen's Village Cultural Museum, and Harbor Walkway, revitalizes and preserves the cultural assets of the old port, further integrating the tourism development potential of Hsinchu Fishing Port, making the Nanliao Fishing Port area an ideal destination for holiday outings.
