Toucheng Old Street Introduction

The Old Street of Toucheng, characterized by its red walls and black tiles, is the oldest street in Toucheng, previously known as Touwai Street. It was once close to the only commercial port, Wushi Harbor, in the Lanyang area, and during the Qing Dynasty, it became a prosperous economic center. The weathered marks on the walls testify to the rise and fall of the entire old street. Upon exiting Toucheng Railway Station, you will soon discover the Old Street of Toucheng. Walking along this street allows for a leisurely stroll without the crowd, where you can often see buildings on both sides that blend the Southern Fujian style from the Qing Dynasty with Western-style architecture from the Japanese colonial period. The historic structures such as Qingyuan Palace, the Thirteen Line Ruins, and the Lu Family Mansion, among others, were once splendid landmarks and now serve as monuments to the past. The street runs in a north-south direction, with Fude Temples located at both ends, enclosing the old street that showcases various architectural styles from different periods, which has also become a filming location for Taiwanese dramas. In addition to experiencing the rich cultural and historical atmosphere on the Old Street of Toucheng, there is also a variety of hidden delicacies waiting for visitors to explore and savor in this nostalgic culinary experience.
