Toucheng Old Street Introduction

The old street of Toudeng, with its red walls and black tiles, is the oldest street in Toudeng, formerly known as Touwai Street. It is located near the only commercial Wushi Harbor in the Lanyang area at that time, and during the Qing Dynasty, it became the most prosperous economic center. The weathered marks on the walls bear witness to the rise and fall of the entire old street. Upon exiting Toudeng Railway Station, a short walk leads to the old street, where one can stroll without the crowds, allowing for a leisurely exploration. Along the street, the architecture reflects a blend of Southern Fujian style from the Qing Dynasty and colonial Western styles from the Japanese occupation period, such as Qingyuan Palace, the Thirteen Lines Ruins, and the Lu Family Residence. These buildings once flourished and now serve as historical monuments. The street runs north to south, with Fude Temples at both ends, encapsulating the old street's various architectural styles and providing a backdrop for filming scenes in Taiwanese dramas. In addition to experiencing a rich cultural and historical atmosphere in the old street, there are also hidden culinary delights waiting to be discovered and savored in the alleys, offering nostalgic flavors of local snacks.
