Toucheng Old Street Introduction
The red walls and black tiles of Toucheng Old Street make it the oldest street in Toucheng, formerly known as Touwai Street. It is located near the only commercial black stone port in the Lanyang area at the time, becoming the economic center during the Qing Dynasty. The mottled marks on the walls bear witness to the prosperity and decline of the entire old street. Just a few steps from Toucheng Railway Station, you will discover Toucheng Old Street. Strolling along this street, you can leisurely explore without the crowds, and you’ll occasionally notice buildings on both sides that showcase a blend of Southern Fujian style from the Qing Dynasty and Western-style architecture from the Japanese colonial period. Structures such as Qingyuan Temple, the Thirteen Rows Site, and the Lu Family Residence, as well as the New Changxing Tree Shop… once thrived and now stand as historical monuments. The street runs north-south with a Fude Temple at each end, encircling the old street that features architecture from various periods and serving as a filming location for Taiwanese dramas. Besides experiencing the rich cultural and historical atmosphere of Toucheng Old Street, there are also hidden culinary delights in the alleys, waiting for everyone to explore and savor the nostalgic flavors of local snacks.
