Zhuanxi River Estuary Introduction
The Zhuan'an River Estuary Wetland covers a vast area, with habitats including rice paddies, fish ponds, and freshwater marshes. This has led to thriving aquaculture, primarily focused on sea cucumber, eel, and grass shrimp. The wide, diverse, and tranquil wetland environment, combined with the abundant fish and shrimp brought in by the tides, makes this area a secluded habitat for birds. During autumn and winter, when migratory birds head south, thousands of various waterfowl pass through, either stopping for rest or wintering here. Visitors can witness the graceful sight of waterbirds foraging, as well as the beautiful reflections of layered mountains on the water's surface, making it a hidden gem for birdwatching. However, the ecology has changed in recent years, and bird populations are not as abundant as they once were, prompting reflection on the importance of cherishing nature. Additionally, the coastal sandy area at the Zhuan'an River Estuary offers opportunities for birdwatching and sightseeing, as well as the chance to witness a traditional Yilan folk activity called "qian gu" (net pulling). This involves fishermen using bamboo rafts to pull nets along the coast during the fishing season, encircling fish schools, and then working together to pull the catch ashore, where participants can share in the bounty. Furthermore, this spot is also excellent for watching sunrises; in the early morning, the sun rises, casting warm yellow light on the river's surface, attracting many photographers seeking to capture this serene beauty.
