Zhuan'an River Estuary Introduction
The Zhuan'an River Estuary Wetland has a vast area, with habitats including rice fields, fish farms, and freshwater marshes, which makes aquaculture thrive here, mainly focusing on geoduck, eel, and grass shrimp. The wide, diverse, and tranquil wetland environment, along with the abundance of fish and shrimp brought by the tides, has made it a secluded habitat for birds. During autumn and winter, when migratory birds fly south, various types and thousands of waterfowl stop here for rest or to spend the winter. You can witness the graceful sight of waterbirds foraging and the beautiful reflection of the mountains on the water’s surface, making it a hidden gem for birdwatching. However, in recent years, ecological changes have affected the area's bird population, which prompts reflection on the importance of cherishing nature. Additionally, the sandy beach at the Zhuan'an River Estuary not only offers birdwatching and sightseeing but also features traditional Yilan cultural activities such as net fishing. Net fishing involves fishermen using bamboo rafts to pull nets along the coast during fish runs, corralling the fish into the nets, and then people onshore work together to pull the catch in, allowing participants to share in the bounty. This area is also a great spot for watching the sunrise; in the early morning, as the sun rises, its warm yellow light reflects on the river's surface, attracting many photographers eager to capture the tranquil beauty.
