Hou Cihu Introduction
Due to ongoing construction work, the Back Cihu admission application system is currently suspended, and the opening dates will be announced separately. We apologize for the inconvenience caused (for more details, please see the latest announcement on the official website: https://backcihu.tycg.gov.tw/index.aspx?openExternalBrowser=1). The mysterious Back Cihu, now accessible for visits following the declassification of military sites, was originally a small lake where Chiang Kai-shek and his wife would stroll and row boats. Entering the park via the side gate of Cihu and crossing a small hill, visitors can enjoy a beautiful two-kilometer trail that features remnants from the martial law period, including command posts, bunkers, controlled iron gates, and offices—all worth the visit. When the Taoyuan City Government reopened it for tours in 2009, they preserved the original appearance of five official residences, re-creating the history, ecology, and cultural life of the Chiang family at Back Cihu. The park boasts rich biodiversity, including human-faced spiders, a variety of birds, and frogs, along with a forest bathing trail of the endemic Taiwan cypress. Strolling through it, visitors can admire the reflections in Back Cihu while enjoying leisure activities fit for a head of state.
