Hou Cihu Lake Introduction
Due to ongoing construction work, the application system for entry to Back Cihu is temporarily closed, and the reopening date will be announced separately. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause (for more details, please refer to the latest announcement on the official website: https://backcihu.tycg.gov.tw/index.aspx?openExternalBrowser=1). Enveloped in mystery, Back Cihu has recently opened for visits due to the lifting of military restrictions, transforming this hidden paradise into a public attraction. Originally a small lake where Chiang Kai-shek and his wife would walk and row boats, the park's trail can be accessed through the side gate of Cihu. It passes over gentle hills for about two kilometers, offering stunning views along the way, along with remnants from the martial law era including command posts, bunkers, controlled gates, and offices, making it a worthwhile visit. When the Taoyuan City Government reopened it for public visits in 2009, they preserved the original features of five official residences, restoring the history, ecology, and cultural lifestyle of the Chiang family at Back Cihu, as well as recreating their living space. The park boasts rich ecology with diverse species of human-faced spiders, birds, and frogs, as well as a forest bathing trail featuring Taiwan’s endemic species, the Taiwan sweet gum tree. Strolling through this area while admiring the reflections in Back Cihu, visitors can also enjoy leisure activities fit for heads of state.
