Bajilindan Trail Introduction
Before the construction of the Bajij Tunnel, the pathway from Daxi to Jiao Ban Mountain and Ba Ling in the Fuxing mountainous area was primarily via the Bajij Trail (formerly known as the Shigui Keng Ancient Trail). This route has been an important transportation corridor since the Qing Dynasty and throughout the Japanese occupation. In 1944, with the opening of the Bajij Tunnel's light railway, the Bajij Lin Yin Trail ceased to be a transportation hub. Starting in 1949, Cihu was designated as a military control zone, which cast a mysterious veil over the Bajij Trail for half a century, ultimately protecting its natural ecology from development and destruction. Visiting the Bajij Trail is not only a journey through history and culture but also an opportunity to experience its rich natural scenery. From spring to autumn, visitors can seek out Black-winged Fireflies and Mountain-window Fireflies, enjoying the quietness of the forest while following the glimmering fireflies at dusk. In winter, there are chances to meet common bird species such as the Taiwan Scops Owl, Bamboo Chicken, Taiwan Blue Magpie, and Grey-throated Minivet, providing endless surprises. The trail features a diverse range of plant life, notably the Tung Flower, which produces a snowy bloom along the winding paths every May and adds a romantic touch. Additionally, visitors can observe species like Rhododendron, Mountain Palm, Kidney Fern, Pencil Cedar, and Eucalyptus. Butterflies like the Black Butterfly, Common Five-ring Butterfly, Bamboo Red Butterfly, and Common Four-ring Butterfly flit about in this natural setting. The entire 2.8-kilometer Bajij Lin Yin Trail is a wide asphalt path exclusively for pedestrians, lacking the steep inclines typical of ancient trails. This makes it an age-friendly introductory trail, perfect for family outings. Travelers can enjoy the pristine mountain forest, breathe in the phytoncides and negative ions to awaken their body and mind, and experience ultimate relaxation. The panoramic view of Daxi below offers an extraordinary sight, making the trip worthwhile. The Bajij Lin Yin Trail also provides access to other nearby attractions such as the Daqiaoxiong Ancient Trail and Xizhou Park.
