Baijilin Yinsong Trail Introduction
Before the construction of the Baiji Tunnel, the main route from Daxi to Jiao Ban Mountain and Baling in the Fuxing area was largely via the Baiji Trail (formerly known as the Shiguikeng Ancient Trail), which has been an important transportation artery since the Qing Dynasty and continued through the Japanese occupation period. In 1944, with the opening of the Baiji Tunnel Light Railway, the Baiji Shady Trail no longer served as a transportation hub. Starting in 1949, the Cihu area was designated as a military control zone, adding a layer of mystery to the Baiji Trail that lasted for half a century, preventing the natural ecology of the region from being damaged by development. Visiting the Baiji Trail provides not only a historical and cultural experience but also an opportunity to enjoy the rich natural scenery. From spring to autumn, you can seek out black-winged fireflies and mountain window fireflies, enjoying the tranquil mountain forest at dusk as you follow the flickering fireflies; during winter visits, you may encounter common bird species such as the Formosan Scops Owl, bamboo chicken, Taiwan Blue Magpie, and Gray-throated Twig Babbler, offering endless surprises. The trail is home to a variety of plants, with the most famous being the Tung tree flowers, which cascade down the winding forest path in May, adding a romantic touch. Additionally, you can see rhododendrons, mountain palms, kidney ferns, pencil trees, and Eucalyptus deglupta, as well as butterflies like the Papilio bianor, Pseudergolinae, bamboo red butterfly, and purple butterfly fluttering among them. The entire 2.8 kilometers of the Baiji Shady Trail is paved with broad asphalt, designed for walking only, without the steep gradients typical of ancient paths, making it an entrance trail suitable for all ages and perfect for family outings. Along the way, enjoy the primordial forest bath, with phytoncides and negative ions awakening your body and mind, providing an ultimate relaxation experience. From the viewpoint, overlook the panoramic view of Daxi below, savoring the boundless scenery that makes the journey worthwhile. The Baiji Shady Trail also connects to other attractions such as the Daqiao Ancient Trail and Xizhou Park.
