Bajili Forest Path Introduction
Before the construction of the Baiji Tunnel, the main route from Daxi to Jiao Ban Mountain and Ba Ling in the Fuxing area was primarily via the Baiji Trail (formerly known as Shiguikeng Ancient Road), which has been an important transportation route since the Qing Dynasty through the Japanese colonial period. In 1944, with the opening of the Baiji Tunnel light railway, the Baiji Lin Yin Trail ceased to be a transportation hub. Starting from 1949, the Cihu area was designated as a military control zone, which shrouded the Baiji Trail in mystery for half a century. This situation also protected the local natural ecology from development and destruction. Visiting the Baiji Trail not only offers a historical and cultural experience but also allows one to immerse in the rich natural landscape. From spring to autumn, one can expect to encounter black-winged fireflies and mountain window fireflies, enjoying the tranquility of the forest at dusk beside the flickering fireflies; in the winter, there are chances to meet common bird species such as the Taiwan Blue Magpie, yellow-browed bulbul, bamboo hen, and grey-throated minivet, providing endless surprises. Along the trail, one can find a variety of plants, most notably the tung tree flowers, which fall like snow in May, adding a romantic touch to the winding paths. Additionally, one can see species like rhododendrons, mountain palms, kidney ferns, pencil trees, and eucalyptus. Butterflies such as the black swallowtail, ringed butterfly, bamboo red glass butterfly, and purple-spotted butterfly flutter about. The entire 2.8-kilometer Baiji Lin Yin Trail features a wide asphalt surface that is solely for pedestrian use, lacking the steep gradients of typical ancient paths, making it an accessible entry-level trail suitable for family excursions. Enjoying the pristine forest bath along the way, the phytoncides and negative ions awaken the body and mind, allowing for ultimate relaxation. The trail offers a breathtaking view of the Daxi panorama, providing a truly rewarding experience. The Baiji Lin Yin Trail also connects to other attractions such as the Dajiaqiong Ancient Road and Xizhou Park.
