Bajilinjing Walking Trail Introduction
Before the construction of the Baiji Tunnel, the main route from Daxi to the Jiao Banshan and Balin areas in the Fuxing region was mostly through the Baiji Trail (formerly known as the Shigukeng Ancient Trail), which served as an important transportation artery from the Qing Dynasty to the Japanese occupation period. With the opening of the Baiji Tunnel Railway in the 33rd year of the Republic of China, the Baiji Lin Yin Trail no longer played a pivotal role in transportation. Starting from the 38th year of the Republic of China, Cihu became a military control zone, shrouding the Baiji Trail in mystery for half a century, which also spared the local natural ecology from development and destruction. Visiting the Baiji Trail is not only a baptism in history and culture but also an experience of its rich natural scenery. From spring to autumn, visitors can seek out black-winged fireflies and mountain window fireflies, enjoying the tranquility of the mountains at dusk alongside the sparkling fireflies; a winter visit offers the chance to encounter common bird species such as the Eurasian scops owl, bamboo chicken, Formosan blue magpie, and grey-throated bamboo partridge, providing endless surprises. The trail is adorned with various plants, notably the Tung flowers, which create a romantic atmosphere in May when they rain down on the winding forest paths. Additionally, one can see tree species like rhododendron, mountain palm, kidney fern, pencil tree, and eucalyptus, while black butterfly, clouded butterfly, bamboo red butterfly, and purple butterfly flutter among them. The 2.8-kilometer-long Baiji Lin Yin Trail features a wide asphalt surface, designated solely for pedestrian use, without the steep slopes typical of ancient trails, making it an age-friendly entrance trail suitable for family outings. Along the way, enjoy the original mountain forest bath, with phytoncides and negative ions awakening your body and mind, creating a profound sense of relaxation. Take in the panoramic view of Daxi from afar and savor the boundless sights—this experience is absolutely worthwhile. The Baiji Lin Yin Trail also provides access to other distinctive attractions such as the Dajiaqiong Ancient Trail and Xizhou Park.
