Guanyin Coastal Recreation Area Introduction
Chasing the sunset and appreciating the red flowers, getting to the century-old lighthouse is a breeze! Originally the Guanyin Beach Bathing Area, the Guanyin Coastal Recreation Area features a large wind turbine that turns with the sea breeze and a Mediterranean-style pavilion in blue and white, making it a popular spot for travelers and a hotspot for filming. Recently, with the introduction of the circular walking path and scenic plaza along the Guanyin Creek, not only has the photo-taking experience been elevated, but it has also expanded to a different kind of travel experience. You can reach the Coastal Recreation Park by following National Route 61 to Zhongxing Road in Guanyin District. Although the Guanyin statue that holds local memories was destroyed by a storm in 2015 and is no longer visible, the Yangliu Jingping Plaza and Guanyin Dragon Trail in the park offer another way to experience local culture. The plaza, designed in the shape of the "Yangliu Jingping" — the ritual water vessel held by the Guanyin Buddha — has a wavy steel bridge symbolizing willow branches, cleverly incorporating local Guanyin faith culture. The expansive park built along the Guanyin Creek features a minimalistic style grid that creates a relaxing atmosphere. On the right side of the plaza is the entrance to the cross-bridge, where you can ascend the steps to enjoy the views of Guanyin Creek, Wuwei Channel's waterfront scenery, and the century-old historical site, the Baisha Cape Lighthouse. Adjacent to the Yangliu Jingping Plaza, the Guanyin Dragon Trail features a mix of metal curves and bamboo lattice, vividly representing the dragon's head. The trail is paved with colorful tiles that create a dragon scale pattern, embodying the image of Guanyin riding a dragon. Opposite the plaza is a lotus pond, where a bridge invites visitors to walk among the vibrant flowers, blending with the surrounding red-brick ancient houses to evoke a gentle rural ambiance. Continuing towards the coastline with the towering wind turbine, in addition to enjoying the seaside breeze, the summer-only vibrant orange Tithonia diversifolia bloom creates a dazzling display, with the petite flowers swaying in the sea breeze, adding vivid colors to the memories of the journey.
