Xiao Li Pond Introduction
Xiaoli Pond, with a history of over 200 years, is not only the first pond in Taoyuan but also the largest pond in the Bade area. Named after the Pingpu tribe's community name "Xiaoli" during the Qianlong period, local Pingpu people, together with Han settlers, excavated Xiaoli Pond at the southernmost tip of Bade based on the terrain. It serves as the water source for the Xiaoli Canal (the predecessor of the Shimen Canal), gathering stream water and springs to provide ample irrigation resources, leading to the flourishing situation of "endless Xiaoli fields and inexhaustible Xiaoli rice." Walking along the lakeside trail, while admiring the lush green waves of rice swaying in the wind, one cannot help but reflect on the hardships faced by the ancestors in developing the land, evoking a sense of gratitude. On the bustling Taoyuan 112 Road, the pleasant scenery of Xiaoli Pond showcases a captivating contrast. The 6-hectare lake surface sparkles with crystalline waves, with rows of pine trees along the banks changing colors with the seasons. Traditional Sanhe courtyard houses and low buildings intertwine, while distant mountains create an ink-wash painting effect. Travelers can be seen chatting and leaning against the viewing platform, while occasional cyclists take a break under the pavilion. Visiting in winter allows one to also enjoy the dreamy sights of cypress trees and cosmos flowers at Lane 185, Fuwang Street. Xiaoli Pond is not only a leisure spot for residents but also the southern starting point of the "Bade Qiedong Xiaoli Sunshine Bike Path." Heading north along the path, visitors can explore Hakka old houses, the Shimu Niangniang cultural landscape area, and the Dahuo laundry pond, embarking on an intellectually refreshing journey.
