Xiaoli Big Pond (Xiaoli Pond) Introduction
Xiaoli Pond, with a history of over 200 years, is not only the first pond in Taoyuan but also the largest pond in the Bade area. Named after the indigenous Pingpu tribe's community "Xiaoli" during the Qianlong period, it was dug by the Han people at the southernmost end of Bade, utilizing the terrain to gather creek water and spring water, which became the source of Xiaoli Canal (the predecessor of Shimen Canal). The abundant irrigation resources have created a rich landscape where "the endless Xiaoli fields and unending Xiaoli rice" thrive. Walking along the lakeside trail, one can enjoy the sight of the lush green rice waving in the wind while reflecting on the hardships faced by the ancestors in cultivating the land, evoking a sense of gratitude. On the bustling Taoyuan 112 Line, the charming scenery of Xiaoli Pond shows a contrasting appeal. The 6-hectare lake sparkles under the sun, the rows of pine trees along the banks change colors with the seasons, traditional Sanhe courtyard houses and low buildings intermingle, while distant mountains create a layered ink painting effect. Travelers chat and laugh while leaning on the viewing platform, and occasional cyclists rest under the pavilion. A winter visit can also lead to Fuguan Street Lane 185, where one can admire the dreamy scenery of cypress trees and cosmos flowers. Xiaoli Pond serves not only as a leisure spot for residents but also marks the southern starting point of the "Bade Qiaodong Xiaoli Sunshine Cycling Path." Heading north along the route, visitors can explore Hakka old house settlements, Shimu Niangniang cultural landscape area, and the Dahuafang washing pool, embarking on an intellectually refreshing journey.
