Xiaolih Lake Introduction
With a history of over 200 years, the Xiaoli Big Pond is not only the first pond in Taoyuan but also the largest pond in the Bade area. Named after the Pingpu tribe’s community "Xiaoli" during the Qianlong era, it was excavated by the Han people at the southernmost part of Bade according to the terrain, gathering stream water and springs to become the source of the Xiaoli Irrigation Canal (the predecessor of the Shimen Irrigation Canal). The abundant irrigation resources have created a fertile scene of "endless Xiaoli fields and endless Xiaoli rice." Walking along the lakeside trail, one can appreciate the lush green rice waves swaying in the wind while recalling the hard work of the ancestors in reclaiming the land, which naturally invokes a sense of gratitude. On the bustling Taoyuan Highway 112, the pleasant scenery of Xiaoli Big Pond presents a charming contrast. The expansive lake covering an area of 6 hectares sparkles with crystal-clear waves, and rows of pine trees along the embankment change colors with the seasons. Traditional Sanheyuan houses and low buildings intermingle, while distant mountains layer upon each other in an ink-wash painting-like imagination. Travelers can be seen chatting and leaning against the observation deck, and occasionally cyclists pause in the pavilion for a rest... In winter, visitors can also head to Lane 185, Fukuang Street to enjoy the dreamlike scenery of cypress trees and cosmos flowers. Xiaoli Big Pond serves not only as a leisure spot for residents but also as the southern starting point for the "Bade Qiedong Xiaoli Sunshine Bicycle Path." Heading north along the route, visitors can explore Hakka old house settlements, the Shimu Niangniang cultural landscape area, and the Dahuo Room Laundry Pool, embarking on a journey of cultural and intellectual freshness.
