Xiaoli Pond Introduction
The Xiaoli Large Pond, with a history of over 200 years, is not only the first pond in Taoyuan but also the largest pond in the Bade area. During the Qianlong period, the Pingpu people named this place after their community, "Xiaoli," and together with Han settlers, excavated the Xiaoli Large Pond at the southernmost end of Bade, utilizing the terrain to collect stream water and springs to become the water source of the Xiaoli Channel (the predecessor of the Shimen Channel). The abundant irrigation resources create the bountiful scenery of "endless Xiaoli fields and unending Xiaoli rice." Walking along the lakeside trail, one can enjoy the green waves of rice swaying in the wind while reflecting on the hardships endured by the ancestors in their cultivation efforts, evoking feelings of gratitude. On the busy Taoyuan Route 112, the pleasant scenery of Xiaoli Large Pond showcases a contrasting charm. Looking out, the 6-hectare lake surface sparkles with glistening waves, rows of pine trees along the banks change colors with the seasons, traditional Hakka courtyard houses and low buildings intermingle, distant mountains layer upon each other creating ink-wash imagery, travelers gather at the observation platform sharing laughter, and cyclists occasionally rest under the pavilions... In winter, visitors can also head to Lane 185 of Fuqian Street to enjoy the dreamlike views of bald cypress trees and cosmos flowers. Xiaoli Large Pond is not only a leisure spot for residents but also the southern starting point of the "Bade Qiatong Xiaoli Sunshine Bike Path." Heading north along the path, visitors can explore the Hakka old house clusters, Shimu Niang Niang cultural landscape area, and the Dahuafang washing pond, embarking on an intellectual and refreshing journey.
