Liugong Mountain Trail Introduction
Xiaobaiyu Forest, Hongye Mountain Scenery, and the ruins of the fortress cannon are categorized as the 28th Xiaobaiyu "Liulang Mountain," located in Jianshi Township, Hsinchu County, at an elevation of 1,914 meters. It is a moderately challenging hiking trail that combines natural healing and historical significance. The trail is approximately 1.5 kilometers long, with a vertical elevation difference of 360 meters, making it suitable for families to experience the beauty of the mountains together. The trail can be accessed from the Ma-Mei Road trailhead, which has a gentler slope and is shaded by dense forests, making it comfortable even in summer. The old trailhead, Lidong Mountain Lodge, has a mysterious atmosphere as it was once a filming location for horror movies. Next to the lodge stands a peace bell symbolizing blessings, providing travelers with a sense of security and well-wishing. Walking into Liulang Mountain feels like being in a forest bath. The original forests and bamboo groves intertwine vibrantly, and in autumn and winter, visitors can see the leaves of the Taiwanese red maple gradually turning red, creating a colorful landscape like a canvas, making it a pilgrimage site for photography enthusiasts and maple watchers. At the summit, the distant scenery is breathtaking: Daba Jian Mountain, Xueshan Main Peak, Nanhu Big Mountain, and the Sacred Ridge Line are all within view. The weathered Baroque-style fortress ruins at the top, once used for military purposes, now consist of only four walls but silently tell stories of the past, adding historical color to the trail. Liulang Mountain is not only a physically challenging hiking route but also a healing journey intertwined with nature and history. The rich ecological resources along the way make it an excellent choice for family outings that are both fun and educational.
