Gagaoh Cultural Park (Bagualin Tribe) Introduction
The Bagualiki Village, located in Sanjhuang Township, is a settlement of the Saisiyat people, rich in indigenous cultural characteristics. The community consists entirely of Saisiyat people, with the main economic activities revolving around bamboo forests, vegetables, and homestays. The exterior walls of the houses are decorated with wrapped gui bamboo and adorned with totem paintings and carvings, fully showcasing the lifestyle and family characteristics of each household. Many backyards feature wooden pavilions derived from traditional lookout towers, creating a village filled with indigenous colors. Bagualiki Village is originally called "Ragasang" in the Saisiyat language, meaning "a place abundant with camphor trees." During the Japanese occupation, it was referred to as HAKALIKI, derived from the Japanese pronunciation meaning "eight mountains," due to the eight hills that rise from the southern bank of the Nan River, starting from the Daan Bridge. This was later phonetically transcribed into Chinese characters as "Bagualiki."
