Fish Watching Trail Introduction
Since June 5, 2002, a comprehensive stream closure has been implemented from the New Taipei City New Shop Village (Xindian Village) above the Xindian Sanyi Bridge to Dadongshi and its tributaries, covering about 15 kilometers. During the closure, all activities that damage the river ecology, such as fishing, shrimp catching, poisoning, and electric fishing, are prohibited. After more than a year of efforts, great results have been achieved. The fish in the stream are now big, fat, beautiful, and healthy, truly a sight to behold, making it hard for visitors to leave. To provide better fish watching spaces for residents and tourists while ensuring everyone's safety, Mayor Gu Yuan-yu has vigorously promoted and built a fish observation trail. This allows nature lovers to enjoy the beauty of the river ecology in a relaxed, comfortable, and safe environment, marveling at the graceful swimming fish. Unlike other places, you don't have to walk a long distance just to see a few fish; here you can see so many, so big, and so beautiful that you can't resist coming. The fish observation trail is built along the Xindian River, starting from the Xindian Sanyi Bridge, passing through the Siyuan Bridge, where you can admire the beautiful scenery around the bridge. Then, as you pass by Shitan Junior High School, you can hear the sounds of Confucius' students teaching. Before you know it, you'll arrive at the riverside park next to the Yimin Temple and the Mingfeng Suspension Bridge. While you're here, you must walk across the Mingfeng Suspension Bridge, which is said to be a hundred years old, enjoying the sight of the big fish in the stream as you stroll, and peek at the lime kiln along the way to see what it looks like. After enjoying this, you can continue up the creek to the Shidong Pool. Remember, if you jump from the stone wall of the Shidong Pool, make sure to jump carefully to avoid hitting or crushing the fish; wearing a safety helmet before jumping might not be a bad idea. Whether you jump or not, the fish observation trail goes through Taiwan Provincial Highway 3 and out from the Xindian Sanyi Bridge. At this point, you can follow the creek to visit the Qingquan Farm in Dadongshi or enjoy local delicacies such as the "Black Pearl Stone Bass" at the Xiangyuan Restaurant, guaranteed to make you addicted to the taste!
