Fish Viewing Trail Introduction
Since June 5, 2002, a comprehensive stream closure has been implemented in Xindian Village, from the Xindian Sanshui Bridge upstream to Datongsi and its tributaries, covering an area of approximately 15 kilometers. During the closure period, fishing, catching shrimp, and any activities that damage the river ecosystem are prohibited. After more than a year of efforts, significant improvements have been made; the fish in the stream are now large, plump, beautiful, and healthy, truly captivating and unforgettable. To provide better viewing locations for residents and tourists while ensuring safety, Township Chief Gu Yuan-Yu has actively promoted and constructed a fish observation trail. This is designed to allow nature lovers to appreciate the beauty of the river's ecosystem in the most relaxed, comfortable, and safe environment, enjoying the sight of fish swimming gracefully. Unlike other places where one must walk a long distance with little chance of seeing many large and beautiful fish, here, you're ensured a delightful experience. The fish observation trail is built along the banks of the Xindian River, starting from the Xindian Sanshui Bridge, passing by the Siyuan Bridge to appreciate the beautiful scenery around it, and then going past Shitan Junior High School, where you can hear the voices of students learning under the guidance of Confucius's teachings. Before you know it, you'll arrive at the riverside park next to the Yimin Temple and the Mingfeng Suspension Bridge. Since you're here, be sure to walk across the Mingfeng Suspension Bridge, which is said to be over a hundred years old, while observing the large fish in the stream. When passing by the lime kiln, take a glance to see what it looks like. Afterward, continue upstream to Shidong Pond. Remember! If you plan to jump into the water from the rock face at Shidong Pond, be sure to jump accurately to avoid hurting the fish, or consider wearing a helmet as a good idea. Regardless of whether you jump or not, the fish observation trail crosses the Taiwan Provincial Highway 3 and exits from the Xindian Sanshui Bridge, allowing you to continue along the stream to visit the Qingquan Farm in Datongsi, or dine at the Xiangyuan Restaurant to try the local specialty, the "Black Pearl Stonefish," which is guaranteed to be addictive!
