Fish Watching Trail Introduction
Since June 5, 2002, a comprehensive stream closure has been implemented from the Sanqiao Bridge in Xindian Village to the Dadongshi area and its tributaries, covering approximately 15 kilometers. During the closure period, all activities that damage the river ecosystem, such as fishing, catching shrimp, and using poisons or electric methods, are prohibited. After more than a year of efforts, significant results have been achieved, and the fish in the stream are now larger, fatter, more beautiful, and healthier, making it an impressive sight that captivates visitors. To provide better fish-watching locations for residents and tourists while ensuring everyone's safety, the township head, Mr. Gu Yuan-Yu, has actively promoted and constructed a fish-watching trail. This trail allows nature lovers to appreciate the beauty of the river's ecosystem in the most relaxed, comfortable, and safe environment while enjoying the sight of fish swimming gracefully. Unlike other places, there’s no need to walk a long distance to see just a few fish—here, you'll see many, large, and beautiful fish. So, how could you not come? The fish-watching trail is built along the banks of the Xindian River and starts from the Sanqiao Bridge, passing through the Siyuan Bridge, where you can visit the beautiful scenery around it. Then, you will go past Shitan Junior High School and enjoy the sounds of Confucius’s students studying. Before you know it, you will reach the riverside park and Mingfeng Suspension Bridge next to the Yimin Temple. Since you’re there, make sure to take a walk across the Mingfeng Suspension Bridge, which is said to have a history of over a hundred years, while enjoying the sight of the large fish in the stream. As you pass by the lime kiln, take a peek at what it looks like. After your visit, continue upstream to Shidong Pond. Remember! If you jump from the rock wall into Shidong Pond, make sure to jump correctly to avoid hitting or squashing any fish. Alternatively, wearing a helmet while jumping could be a good idea. Whether you jump or not, the fish-watching trail continues past Taiwan Provincial Highway 3, where you can follow the stream to visit the Qingquan Farm in Dadongshi, or enjoy local delicacies such as the “Black Pearl Stone Grouper” at the Xiangyuan Restaurant, guaranteed to be addictive! So, don’t hesitate anymore—come visit our fish-watching trail right away!
