Fish Watching Trail Introduction

Since June 5, 2002, a comprehensive river closure has been implemented from the Sanqiao Bridge in Xindian Village upstream to Dadongshi and its tributaries, encompassing about 15 kilometers. During the closure, fishing, shrimp catching, and all activities that may harm river ecology are prohibited. After more than a year of efforts, great results have been achieved—the fish in the stream are now larger, fatter, more beautiful, and healthier, making it a breathtaking sight that keeps you lingering and reluctant to leave. To provide better fish-watching facilities for locals and tourists while ensuring everyone's safety, Mr. Gu Yuanyu, the township mayor, has actively promoted and constructed a fish-watching trail. This trail is designed for nature lovers to enjoy the beauty of river ecology in the most relaxed, comfortable, and safe environment, allowing you to marvel at the serene swimming of the fish. Unlike other places where you may have to walk a long distance to see just a few fish, here, you will find plenty of large and beautiful fish, so why not come and see for yourself? The fish-watching trail is built along the Xindian River and starts from the Sanqiao Bridge, passing by the Siyuan Bridge, where you can admire the beautiful scenery around it. Then, you will pass by Shitan Junior High School, where you might hear the sounds of Confucius’ students studying. Before you know it, you'll arrive at the riverside park next to the Yimin Temple and the Mingfeng Suspension Bridge. Since you are already here, you must walk the Mingfeng Suspension Bridge, which is said to have a history of over a hundred years, while observing the large fish in the stream. Don't forget to take a peek at the lime kiln when passing by to see what it looks like. After your visit, you can continue upstream along the river to Shidong Pond. Remember! If you plan to jump into the water at Shidong Pond, be sure to aim carefully to avoid hitting or crushing the fish, or you might consider wearing a helmet before jumping—it’s a good idea! Whether you jump or not, the fish-watching trail continues through Taiwan Route 3, leading you out from the Sanqiao Bridge. At this point, you can continue along the river to Qingquan Farm in Dadongshi or head to the Xiangyuan Restaurant to try the local specialties, such as the black pearl stonefish, guaranteed to be addictive! So don't hesitate any longer, come and visit our fish-watching trail now!
