Fish Watching Trail Introduction
Since June 5, 2002, a comprehensive stream closure has been implemented from the New Taipei Sanqiao area in Xindian Village to Datongshi and its tributaries, covering approximately 15 kilometers. During the stream closure, fishing, shrimp catching, and any activities that could damage the river ecosystem are prohibited. After more than a year of efforts, significant positive results have been achieved. The fish in the stream are now larger, fatter, more beautiful, and healthier, truly a sight to behold and a delightful experience. To provide better fish watching spots for residents and tourists while ensuring everyone's safety, Township Mayor Gu Yu-Yu has strongly promoted and constructed a fish observation trail. This trail allows nature enthusiasts to enjoy the beauty of the river’s ecology in the most relaxed, comfortable, and safe environment, marveling at the scene of fish swimming freely. Unlike other locations, where you often have to walk a long distance without seeing many large beautiful fish, here you won't want to miss it! The fish observation trail is built along the banks of New Taipei River, starting from New Taipei Sanqiao, passing by Siyuan Bridge to explore the beautiful scenery around the bridge. Then, the trail continues past Shitan Junior High School, where you can hear Confucius’ students teaching. Before you know it, you'll arrive at the riverside park beside Yimin Temple and the Mingfeng Suspension Bridge. Since you are here, you must walk across the Mingfeng Suspension Bridge, reputed to be over a hundred years old, while watching the large fish in the stream. As you pass by the lime kiln, take a quick peek to see what it looks like. After the visit, follow the stream upstream to Shidong Pond. Remember! If you decide to jump into the water from the rock walls of Shidong Pond, make sure to jump accurately to avoid hitting or crushing any fish. Or you could consider wearing a helmet as a good idea too. Regardless of whether you jump or not, after crossing Taiwan Route 3 and exiting from New Taipei Sanqiao, you can continue along the stream to visit the Qingquan Farm in Datongshi or dine at the Xiangyuan Restaurant to enjoy the local specialty, “Black Pearl Stone Fish,” which is guaranteed to be addictive! So don't hesitate any longer, come and visit our fish observation trail right away!
