Gongliao Old Street Introduction
Gongliao District is the easternmost administrative district of New Taipei City and also the easternmost point of Taiwan's main island. Gongliao Old Street is located on the south bank of Shuangxi River, facing Gongliao Station across the river. Gongliao was formerly known as Gangzailiao, where "Gangzai" means "trap" in the Basay language. Therefore, "Gangzailiao" refers to a grass hut built near traps. The entrance archway of Gongliao Old Street is specially designed with a wild boar motif, reflecting this historical background.
