Northeast Coast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Introduction
The Northeastern Coast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area is located at the northeast tip of Taiwan, stretching from Nanya Li in Ruifang District, New Taipei City in the north to the southern cape of Neipi Beach in Su'ao Township, Yilan County in the south. The coastline is 102.5 kilometers long, with a total area (including Guishan Island) of 17,421 hectares. The Northeastern Coast is characterized by its mountains beside the sea, dotted with bays and capes, featuring rugged rocky cliffs, magnificent sea erosion landscapes, soft golden beaches, and vibrant marine ecology. It is also rich in cultural and historical heritage, making it a comprehensive tourist destination that combines the intellectual experience of a natural classroom and the emotional allure of a seaside amusement park. The unique terrain and climate have led to a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna in this area; to the north lies the East China Sea Continental Shelf, and to the east flows the Kuroshio Current, resulting in a diverse and abundant fish population, making this region one of Taiwan's important fishing grounds. In the waters around Guishan Island and Nanfang'ao, there are precious whale and dolphin tourism resources. The extensive coastline also nurtures diverse and rich cultural experiences, such as the unique stone houses of Ma'ao Fishing Village, Dali Tiangong Temple, and historical sites like the "Tiger Inscription" and "Xiong Town Man Smoke Carving" on the Caoling Ancient Trail, the inscriptions "Control Heaven's Dangerous Pass" and "Where the White Cloud Flies" at the old Caoling Tunnel, and the Sandiao Cape Lighthouse, all of which are invaluable historical monuments that record the pioneering spirit of our ancestors and showcase the beauty of humanity. The vast and clear marine waters of the Northeastern Coast are popular with tourists during the summer months for recreational activities such as swimming, diving, windsurfing, surfing, and kayaking. These can be combined with visits to unique ancient geological landscapes to enrich travel itineraries. The area's cultural history, geological terrain, and natural ecology are exceedingly diverse, and the management office organizes seasonal festivals such as the Fulong Welcome the Sunrise, International Sand Sculpture Art Season, and the Encounter Northeast Coast and Caoling Ancient Trail Reed Flower Season.
