Northeast Coast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Introduction
The Northeast Coast and Yilan Coast Scenic Area is located in the northeastern corner of Taiwan, stretching from Nanya Li in Ruifang District, New Taipei City in the north to the southern cape of Neipi Beach in Su'ao Township, Yilan County in the south. The coastline stretches a total of 102.5 kilometers, with a total marine and terrestrial area of 17,421 hectares, including Guishan Island. The Northeast Coast is characterized by its mountainous coastline, scattered bays and capes, rugged rocky cliffs, dramatic coastal erosion formations, soft golden beaches, and rich marine ecology. It also nurtures simple cultural and historical sites, making it a comprehensive tourist destination that combines the intellectual function of a natural classroom with the emotional charm of a coastal amusement park. The unique terrain and climate contribute to the area's rich biodiversity; the sea is abundant with various fish species, especially with the East China Sea continental shelf to the north and the Kuroshio Current flowing to the east, making it an important fishing ground in Taiwan. In the waters around Guishan Island and Nanfangun, there are also valuable whale and dolphin tourism resources. The continuous coastline has fostered diverse and rich cultures, with unique landmarks like the stone houses of Mao'ao fishing village, Dali Tiangong Temple, and the "Tiger Stone" and "Xiong Town Mannian Stele" on the Caoling Old Trail, as well as historic inscriptions at the entrance of the old Caoling Tunnel - "Zhi Tian Xian" and "Bai Yun Fei Chu", and the Sandiaojiao Lighthouse, all precious monuments that record the pioneering spirit of the ancestors and showcase the beauty of culture. The vast and clear ocean waters of the Northeast Coast are popular among visitors during the summer, offering activities such as swimming, diving, windsurfing, surfing, and kayaking, while also allowing for the exploration of unique ancient geological landscapes, enriching the travel experience. The area is rich in cultural history, geological terrain, and natural ecology, and the management office organizes seasonal festive activities such as the Fulong Welcoming the Dawn, International Sand Sculpture Art Festival, Riding Encounter on the Northeast Coast, and the Miscanthus Season on Caoling Old Trail.
