Emerald of Cohesion - R4 Kaohsiung International Airport Station Introduction
Kaohsiung International Airport MRT Station is the gateway connecting Kaohsiung to the world. To align with the open and bright image of Kaohsiung as a maritime city, the station features skylights to capture the blue sky and white clouds, while the "凝聚的綠寶石" (Condensed Green Gem) echoes the theme of green water and life. This is currently the world's largest 3D public art piece made of glass, designed and crafted by German glass artist Lutz Haufschild. The work consists of two walls, Wall A focuses on the theme of the Tree of Life, creating a concept of vitality and endless reproduction. Wall B, "Endless," resembles waves pushing against the shore — calm yet filled with immense tension. Coupled with the lighting designed based on the changing light and shadows at R4 station, the thousands of green glass pieces reflect and refract light, providing viewers with different perspectives and imaginations based on their angles. This crystalline and dynamic artwork turns the airport gateway into more than just a transit hub; it serves as a new space for city residents to engage with art and a transfer station for the aesthetics of life.
