Magang Intertidal Zone Introduction
With years of wave action and erosion, the Northeast Coast has developed rich and diverse geological landscapes, showcasing charming topographical features everywhere. The wave-cut platform formed by coastal cliff erosion has become one of the most ecologically rich intertidal zones along Taiwan's coastline, full of green algae, between tides. The best way to explore the intertidal zone ecology is by walking. Strolling along the natural trail, which is about a hundred meters long and wide, offers encounters with many small creatures! In the tide pools or under the rocks, one can find fish fry, sea anemones, periwinkles, moon snails, cowries, sea hares, and crabs, as well as slow-moving hermit crabs. Near the lower tide zone, one can see small caulerpa, coral algae, sea anemones, barnacles, and sea squirts. The best part is that there are different scenic features throughout the year, allowing for observation of intertidal creatures. In spring, the wave-cut platform is covered with lush green sea lettuce and algae, resembling a natural green carpet; although the green algae landscape is less prominent in summer, walking is relatively easier. Strolling in the Mako intertidal zone, small creatures abound, letting you experience what it means that "every tide pool is a world," making it the best season for family ecological tours.
