Magang Fishing Port Introduction
Magang Fishing Port, located in the Gongliao District of New Taipei City, is the easternmost fishing village in Taiwan. It is situated right next to the North Coast Highway, directly below the Sandiaojiao Lighthouse along the coast. Nearby, there are suitable areas for rock fishing, such as the Lailai Rock Fishing Ground and the Magang Rock Fishing Ground. On the mountain behind, the Sandiaojiao Lighthouse stands, making it a fishing port with a very advantageous geographical location. Fishing boats from Magang often operate around Guishan Island and the Sandiaowan Fishing Ground, belonging to nearshore fisheries with same-day returns. The main catch includes snapper, bonito, small squid, cuttlefish, and lobster. Half of the catch is sold locally, while the other half is sent to the Keelung City market for auction or processing plants. Magang features large wave-cut platforms, with some areas showcasing beautiful curves in the wave-cut texture, making it an excellent spot for watching the waves and for local residents to fish and gather seaweed. While enjoying the vast sea views with the sea breeze, one can also visit the easternmost café in Taiwan for a cup of coffee. Online, Magang Fishing Port is also referred to as "Cat Village" due to the many cats present; their presence can be seen in the squares, along the embankments, at street corners, and on the rooftops of old houses.
