Magang Fishing Port Introduction
Makeng Fishing Port, located in Gongliao District, New Taipei City, is the easternmost fishing village in Taiwan. It is situated by the Northern Coastal Highway, right under the San Diego Cape Lighthouse. Nearby, there are suitable spots for rock fishing, such as the Lailai Rock Fishing Area and the Makeng Rock Fishing Area. On the hill behind, the San Diego Cape Lighthouse stands, making it a fishing port with a very advantageous geographical location. The fishing boats from Makeng operate as far as Guishan Island and Sandiao Bay fishing grounds, focusing on nearshore fisheries with same-day returns. The main catches include sea bream, skipjack tuna, small squid, soft-shelled turtles, and lobsters. Half of the catch is sold locally, while the other half is sent to markets or processing plants in Keelung City. Makeng boasts a large coastal erosion platform, and the erosional patterns on some terrains display beautiful curves, making it an excellent spot for watching the waves and observing locals fishing and gathering seaweed. Enjoying the expansive sea view while feeling the ocean breeze, visitors can also stop by the Easternmost Café in Taiwan for a cup of coffee. Online, Makeng Fishing Port is sometimes referred to as Cat Village, as there are many cats around; their presence can be spotted throughout the squares, embankments, street corners, and on the roofs of old houses.
