Magong Intertidal Zone Introduction
The Magong intertidal zone in Magong Fishing Harbor, located in Gongliao District, New Taipei City, is approximately over a hundred meters in length and width. It is the area in Taiwan where the most green algae grow. The surface of the wave-cut platform is quite flat, and the terrain is classified as a wave-cut platform, featuring many small tide pools and tidal creeks, making it suitable for close exploration of intertidal ecology on foot. In the tide pools or under the rocks, one can find small fish fry, sea anemones, periwinkles, whelks, cowries, sea hares, and crabs, as well as slowly moving little hermit crabs. Near the low-tide zone, there are small seaweeds, coral algae, sea anemones, barnacles, and sea squirts. The best part is that this place has different sceneries throughout the year, and intertidal zone organisms can be observed at any time. In spring, the wave-cut platform is covered with lush green sea lettuce and algae, resembling a layer of natural green carpet, making it the best season for family ecological tours.
