Magang Intertidal Zone Introduction
The Magang intertidal zone in Magang Fishing Port, located in Gongliao District, New Taipei City, measures about a hundred meters in both length and width. It is the area with the most seaweed growth along the coast of Taiwan. The surface of the wave-cut platform is quite flat, and the terrain belongs to a wave-cut platform, featuring many small tidal pools and channels, making it suitable for close exploration of intertidal ecology on foot. In the tidal pools or under rocks, you can find juvenile fish, sea anemones, sea snails, conch, pearl snails, sea hares, crabs, and slowly moving little hermit crabs. Near the low tide zone, you can see small calcareous algae, coral algae, sea anemones, barnacles, and sea pigs growing. The best part is that this area offers different scenery throughout the year, allowing for the observation of intertidal organisms. In spring, the wave-cut platform is covered with vibrant green sea lettuce and algae, resembling a layer of natural green carpet, making it the best season for parent-child ecological trips.
