Magang Intertidal Zone Introduction
Located in the Gongliao District of New Taipei City, the Magong Intertidal Zone in front of Magong Fishing Port is approximately over a hundred meters in length and width. It is the place with the most green algae growth along the Taiwan coast, featuring a relatively flat surface as part of a wave-cut platform. There are also many small tidal pools and tidal channels, making it ideal for close exploration of intertidal ecology on foot. In the tidal pools or under the rocks, one can find small fry, sea anemones, periwinkles, conchs, cowries, sea hares, and crabs, as well as slow-moving hermit crabs. Near the low tide zone, there are small seaweeds, coral algae, sea anemones, barnacles, and sea squirts growing. The best part is that this area showcases different scenes throughout the year, allowing for observation of intertidal creatures. In spring, the wave-cut platform is covered with lush green sea lettuce and algae, resembling a layer of natural green carpet, making it the best season for family ecological tours.
