Babangzun Cultural Creative Action Base Introduction

This base is located at the foothills of Bagua Mountain, where the peak resembles a dragon's head, known as "Bizi Head," which is also the old name of Yuanquan Village, a community that has preserved its complete ecology and rural atmosphere in Taiwan. The community has a history of 300 years with the "Babao Canal," which was excavated as a water intake point, thus possessing skilled workers in making bamboo rafts, assisting the Water Conservancy Association in guiding the water flow of the Zhuoshui River into the Babao Canal, which nourishes the Changhua Plain, often referred to as the mother river of Changhua. The community once developed "Bizi Head Station" along the Jiji Line due to the prosperity of the timber industry, filled with iconic buildings and streets brimming with historical charm. To give back and express gratitude for the construction of the canal, local特色 activities are held according to the four seasons: "Floral Rail" in spring, "Black Mud Field" in summer, "Listening to the River Sing Again" in autumn, and "Searching for the Water Source Fairy" in winter. Moreover, an "Eight Fort Canal Water Running Festival" is held in early November every year, where community elders not only prepare performances but also have the well-known "Jin Zhengyong Forever Young Orchestra" serve as cheerleaders for the water running marathon, representing the best integration of locality and culture. "It’s Fun Here" identifies Bizi Head as not only the head of the Babao Canal, the largest public canal in the Changhua Plain, but also an important source for the Cizai Lake Canal. Aside from the water intake point and Babao sluice gate, the area features the famous Mr. Lin Temple, Taiwan's low-altitude monkey protection area, and historic sites such as the Yuanquan Train Station on the Jiji Line. With historical waterways and unique landscapes, Bizi Head can be considered the blessed land of the "Babao Legend," now recognized as a great place for people to reminisce and enjoy recreation. "Good Craftsmanship" indicates that Yuanquan Community is located at the head of the Babao Canal, where the water contains a large amount of argillaceous slate components, enriching the farmland with organic matter. The soil is precious black soil, rich in trace elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, making the rice grains full, aromatic, and delicious. Vegetables and fruits grown at home, including roselle and white bitter gourd, are brought to the community's "Canal Dining Hall" nearly every day by the elders, allowing our volunteers to prepare local delicacies! "That's Impressive" signifies that the community theater was established in 2016, attracting nearly 40 participants from three generations, ranging from a 7-year-old boy to an 80-year-old grandmother, to partake in the series of performances and behind-the-scenes work of "Finding the 1719 Water Source Fairy" (First Chapter - The Legend of Babao Canal, Second Chapter - Water Introduction, Third Chapter - The Lin Family at Bizi Head NOW AND GO, Fourth Chapter - Mother Spring Dance, Fifth Chapter - Bizi Head Station Centenary Party). Community residents have transformed from neighbors into theater actors, developing scripts centered on the "Babao Canal," allowing the story of the ancestral "bamboo rafts" construction technique to be preserved and shared through theatrical performance.
