Waipu Fishing Port Introduction

The "Miaoli Marine Tourism Season" event is held at Waipu Fishing Port, located in Waipu Village, Houlong Township, Miaoli County. It is the largest fishing port in Miaoli County, famous for its speedboat fishing in the past. After reconstruction planned by the county government, it has now transformed into the most romantic and charming fishing wharf in central Taiwan. The beauty of Waipu Fishing Port is different; it belongs to the tranquil and comfortable leisure style. Compared to the bustling atmosphere of other fishing ports and docks, Waipu Fishing Port exudes a serene beauty, no matter when you visit—whether at sunset, where couples can enjoy the romantic view together, or at night when the waves gently caress the shore and the soft lights of the fishing port reflect on the water's surface, creating a peaceful ambiance. Even on a bright sunny afternoon, walking on the ocean breeze-filled boardwalk, strolling along the pier while enjoying the rich aroma of coffee in the air, allows one to relax completely and immerse in the tranquil atmosphere. When visiting Waipu Fishing Port, it's not just about enjoying the sea breeze, the ocean views, and the seafood; there are many charming aspects to the newly refreshed Waipu Fishing Port. It’s recommended to slow down and appreciate or linger to enjoy the small delights you discover along the way! The waterfront park in front of the pier features unique fountains and water play areas. The breakwater walls to the south and west are adorned with various totem sculptures that introduce different fishing methods and form an artistic corridor with their stone cut designs. To the north, there is a fishery association building and an onshore park, with beautiful scenery and comprehensive facilities making this area a representative attraction of Miaoli, ideal for enjoying relaxed time during holidays. The offshore fish resources of Waipu Fishing Port are quite abundant, including catches such as mullet, mackerel, barracuda, and ribbonfish. If you want to taste fresh seafood immediately, there are restaurants nearby offering live seafood to satisfy your cravings, or you can ask the shops to prepare your catch economically and affordably. In addition, Waipu Fishing Port offers visitors the chance to take recreational fishing boats out to sea, whether to admire the azure ocean or enjoy the pleasures of fishing, allowing one to experience the endless joy of being close to the sea! 【Smart Fishing Method - Hehuan Stone Weir】 Historically, Miaoli County had 22 stone weirs along its coast, but now only two remain: the "Hehuan Stone Weir" and the "Muna Stone Weir," with Hehuan being the larger of the two. This stone weir, with a history of 300 years, is constructed of rocky reefs in a semicircular wall shape. When the tide rises and submerges the wall, schools of fish are brought in, allowing fishermen to harvest during low tide. Nearby, there is a viewing platform with explanation boards regarding contracts and management methods from the Qing Dynasty related to the stone weirs, providing visitors with a chance to learn about this unique fishing method rich in ancestral wisdom after visiting the fishing port.
