Waipu Fishing Port Introduction
The "Miaoli Ocean Tourism Season" event takes place at Waipu Fishing Port, located in Waipu Village, Holo Town, Miaoli County. It is the largest fishing port in Miaoli County, known in the past for speedboat fishing. Following reconstruction plans by the county government, it has now transformed into the most romantic and charming fisherman’s wharf in Central Taiwan. The beauty of Waipu Fishing Port is unique; it embodies a tranquil and comfortable leisure vibe. Compared to other bustling fishing ports and docks, Waipu Fishing Port exudes a serene charm. No matter when you visit—whether watching the sunset with a partner, with romance in the air; enjoying the gentle waves lapping at the shore at night, with soft lights reflecting off the water’s surface creating a peaceful ambiance; or strolling along the boardwalk in the dazzling afternoon sun, breathing in the rich scent of coffee, visitors can completely relax and immerse themselves in the tranquil atmosphere. At Waipu Fishing Port, you can enjoy the sea breeze, take in the ocean view, and savor fresh seafood. The newly refreshed port has many charming aspects that invite you to slow down and appreciate, or stop and play, where you will surely discover small delights! The waterfront park in front of the dock features unique fountains and splash pads. The breakwater walls to the south and west are adorned with various totem sculptures depicting fishing methods, interconnected with artistic stone patterns forming a corridor of art; to the north, there is a Fishermen's Association building and a shore park, with beautiful scenery and complete facilities making this a representative tourist destination in Miaoli, perfect for enjoying leisurely holiday moments. The offshore catch at Waipu Fishing Port is quite abundant, including fish such as black fish, largehead hairtail, juvenile mackerel, and white-bait fish. If you want to taste fresh seafood immediately, there are lively seafood restaurants next to the port to satisfy your cravings, or you can have the restaurant prepare the catch for you economically and affordably. In addition, Waipu Fishing Port offers tourists the opportunity to take recreational fishing boats out to sea, allowing you to enjoy the azure ocean or the fun of sea fishing, feeling the endless joy of being close to the ocean! **Smart Fishing Method - Hehuan Stone Weir** Along the Miaoli County coastline, there used to be 22 stone weirs, with only two remaining today: Hehuan Stone Weir and Munai Stone Weir, located north of Waipu Fishing Port, among which Hehuan Stone Weir is the larger one. This stone weir, with a history of 300 years, is constructed as a curved rock wall along the coast. When the tide comes in and submerges the rock wall, fish are brought in, and when the tide goes out, fishermen can gather their catch. Near the stone weir, there is a viewing platform featuring explanatory signs about the stone weir's trade contracts and management methods from the Qing Dynasty, allowing visitors to learn about this unique fishing method that carries the wisdom of ancestors after visiting the fishing port.
