Waipu Fishing Harbor Introduction
The "Miaoli Ocean Tourism Season" event takes place at Waipu Fishing Port, located in Waipu Village, Houlong Town, Miaoli County. It is the largest fishing port in Miaoli County and was famously known for its speedboat fishing in the past. After reconstruction planned by the county government, it has transformed into the most romantic and charming fishing dock in central Taiwan. The beauty of Waipu Fishing Port is unique; it belongs to a calm and comfortable leisurely vibe. Compared to other bustling ports and docks, Waipu Fishing Port offers a tranquil beauty. No matter when you visit – whether at sunset, when couples enjoy the beautiful view together in a romantic atmosphere, at night when the waves gently caress the shore and the soft lights of the fishing port reflect on the water’s surface, calming the heart; or even on a bright sunny afternoon, walking along the wooden boardwalk filled with the ocean breeze and inhaling the rich aroma of coffee – it is still easy to feel completely relaxed and immersed in the serene ambiance. At Waipu Fishing Port, you can not only enjoy the sea breeze, beautiful sea views, and seafood, but the revitalized port also has many charming spots. It is recommended to slow down and appreciate or take a break to discover little joys within. The waterfront park in front of the dock features unique fountains and water play areas. The breakwater walls on the south and west sides are decorated with sculptures depicting various fishing techniques and an artistic corridor formed by stone placements. To the north, there are the Fishery Association building and an onshore park, making this place a representative attraction of Miaoli with beautiful scenery and complete facilities, ideal for enjoying leisurely holiday moments. Waipu Fishing Port's offshore fishing resources are abundant, with catches including black fish, mackerel, young Spanish mackerel, and ribbonfish. If you want to taste fresh seafood immediately, there are live seafood restaurants nearby to satisfy your cravings, or you can ask the restaurants to cook it for you at an affordable price. Furthermore, Waipu Fishing Port offers visitors the chance to take recreational fishing boats out to sea, allowing you to enjoy the azure ocean or the pleasures of sea fishing, feeling the endless joy of being close to the ocean! 【Smart Fishing Method - He Huan Stone Weir】 Historically, Miaoli County had 22 stone weirs along its coast, but now only two remain: the He Huan Stone Weir and the Mu Nai Stone Weir, with He Huan being the larger of the two. This stone weir, with a history of 300 years, is built using reef rocks to form a curved stone wall. When the tide rises and floods the wall, fish are brought in, and fishermen can harvest them when the tide recedes. Nearby, there is a viewing platform with explanatory boards on the stone weir trading contracts and management methods from the Qing Dynasty. Visitors to the fishing port can take the opportunity to explore this unique fishing method that embodies the wisdom of ancestors.
