Waipu Fishing Port Introduction

The "Miaoli Ocean Tourism Season" event is held at Waipu Fishing Port, located in Waipu Village, Houlong Town, Miaoli County. After reconstruction planned by the county government, it has transformed into the most romantic and charming fisherman’s wharf in central Taiwan. The beauty of Waipu Fishing Port is unique; it belongs to the tranquil and comfortable leisure type. Compared to the bustle of other fishing ports and wharfs, Waipu Fishing Port has a serene beauty. No matter when you visit—whether at sunset, couples can enjoy the beautiful sunset together in a romantic atmosphere; at night, the gentle waves caressing the shore and the soft lights of the fishing port reflecting on the water surface bring peace and calm; even on sunny afternoons, walking on the seaside floor and strolling along the wooden walkway while inhaling the rich aroma of coffee can still allow one to completely relax and immerse in the tranquil ambiance. When visiting Waipu Fishing Port, it's not just about feeling the sea breeze, enjoying the ocean view, and tasting seafood; the revamped Waipu Fishing Port has many other charming aspects. It is suggested to slow down and enjoy or play around, as you will surely discover delightful surprises! In the waterfront park at the front of the wharf, there are fountains and wading pools with unique designs; on the south and west breakwater walls, various totems sculpture depict different fishing methods, forming an artistic corridor. To the north, there’s the Fishermen’s Association building and an upland park, and with beautiful scenery and complete facilities, this place has become a representative attraction of Miaoli, making it a great place for the public to enjoy leisurely holidays. The offshore fishery resources at Waipu Fishing Port are abundant, with catches including blackfish, mackerel, baby tuna, and white ribbon fish. If you want to taste fresh seafood immediately, there are lively seafood restaurants by the fishing port to satisfy your cravings, or you can ask the shop to prepare the catch for you, which is economical and affordable. Additionally, Waipu Fishing Port offers visitors the chance to take entertainment fishing boats out to sea, where you can admire the blue ocean or enjoy the pleasures of fishing, and feel the endless joy of being close to the ocean! The "Hehuan Stone Weir," located north of Waipu Fishing Port, is one of the two remaining stone weirs in Miaoli County, along with the "Muni Stone Weir." Hehuan Stone Weir, with a history of 300 years, is built from rocky reefs along the coastline in a curved shape. When the tide rises and floods the weir, fish are brought in, and fishermen can harvest them once the tide recedes. There is also a viewing platform near the stone weir, which displays explanations of the stone weir trading contracts and management regulations from the Qing Dynasty. Visitors to the fishing port can conveniently explore this unique fishing method, rich in the wisdom of our ancestors.
