Guokang Beihua Fossil Layer Introduction
The "Guokang Shell Fossil Layer" contains shell fossils that formed approximately one to six million years ago, including bivalves, gastropods, cephalopods, and corals among the rock layers. During the Japanese rule, in the 5th year of the Showa era (1930), the Japanese Governor-General of Taiwan designated this area for preservation. In 1955, the Miaoli County Document Committee erected a "Guokang Shell Fossil Layer Monument" to announce that this site is designated for academic research only and should not be exploited, in order to preserve the shell fossil layer as a historical site.
