Guokang Beihua Fossil Layer Introduction
The Guokang Shell Fossil Layer contains bivalve fossils that formed approximately one to six million years ago. The rock layers include fossils such as bivalves, gastropods, and corals. In the fifth year of the Showa era (1930), the Governor-General of Taiwan designated it for preservation. In the 44th year of the Republic of China, the Miaoli County Literature Committee established a monument at this site, announcing that it is to be used solely for academic research and not for exploitation, in order to preserve the fossil heritage of the shell layer.
