Tongxing Old Street Introduction

Tongxing Old Street is the earliest street in Houlong and served as a center for the exchange of local products between Han Chinese and the Pingpu people. Later, as Houlong Creek gradually silted up, the Han Chinese reclaimed the riverside for farmland, leading to an increase in population and the formation of Houlong Street, which is now the city center. East of Tongguang Elementary School, there is a small irrigation ditch where the water used to be exceptionally clear, and Pingpu women would wash clothes in it, which led to its nickname "Fanpozi Ditch." During the prosperous period of Gongliao Port, Tongxing Old Street was the busiest street, and it has now become a charming old street. The early commercial buildings along the street reveal the role that the mouth of Houlong Creek once played in trade and the exchange of goods.
