Tongxing Old Street Introduction

Tongxing Old Street is the earliest street in Houlong and served as a central hub for trade between Han Chinese and the Pingpu people, exchanging local products. Over time, as the Houlong River gradually silted up, Han settlers cultivated the riverbanks for farmland, leading to a growing population and the formation of Houlong Street, which is now the city center. To the east of Tongguang Elementary School, there is a small irrigation ditch that used to have exceptionally clear water, where Pingpu women would wash their clothes, leading to its name "Fanpoza Ditch." During the prosperous period of Gongliliao Harbor, Tongxing Old Street was the liveliest street, and it has now become a quaint old street. The early storefront buildings along the street reveal the historical role that the mouth of the Houlong River played in the import and export of trade goods.
