Tongxing Old Street Introduction
Tung Hsing Old Street is the earliest street in Houlong and served as a collection center for the exchange of goods between Han Chinese and the Pingpu people. Later, as Houlong River gradually silted up, the Han people cultivated the land by the riverbank, leading to a growing population and the formation of Houlong Street, which is now the city center. East of Tong Guang Elementary School, there is a small ditch where the river water used to be extremely clear, and Pingpu women would wash their clothes in the ditch, hence it's called "Fan Po Zi Ditch." During the prosperous period of Gongsi Liao Port, Tung Hsing Old Street was the busiest street, and it has now become a quaint old street. The early commercial buildings beside the street reveal that the mouth of the Houlong River once played a significant role in the trade of goods.
