Tongxing Old Street Introduction

Tongxing Old Street is the earliest street in Houlung and served as a trading center for the Han people and indigenous Peinan people to exchange local products. Later, as the Houlung River gradually silted up, Han settlers began to cultivate fields along the riverbank, leading to a population increase and the formation of Houlung Street, which is now the city center. To the east of Tongguang Elementary School, there is a small ditch where the water used to be exceptionally clear, and Peinan women would wash their clothes in this ditch, hence it was called "Fanpozi Ditch." During the prosperous period of Gongsi Liao Port, Tongxing Old Street was the busiest street and has now become a historically rich old street, with early commercial buildings along the street hinting at the role the Houlung River estuary once played in trade and commerce.
