Gongwei Xugong Tunnel Introduction

The "Gongweixu Tunnel," built in 1903 during the Meiji era, is located next to Mao Li Mountain Park. The tunnel is 460 meters long, with the northern entrance featuring the characters "Gongweixu," inscribed by Taiwan's governor at the time, Gentarō Kodama. In 1998, the tunnel was decommissioned due to the dual-track service of the mountain line railway. To preserve this valuable railway cultural asset, the county government renovated the tunnel and later added colorful LED lighting decorations. Walking through the tunnel not only provides a refreshing experience, but the fantastical and vibrant light show also leaves visitors in awe!
