Gongweixu Tunnel Introduction

The "Gongweixu Tunnel," built in 1903 during the Meiji period, is located next to Maolin Mountain Park. The tunnel is 460 meters long, with the characters "Gongweixu" prominently displayed at the northern entrance, inscribed by Taiwan's then Governor-General, Seishirō Itagaki. In 1998, due to the dual-track operation of the mountain railway, the tunnel was no longer in use. To preserve this valuable railway cultural asset, the county government refurbished the tunnel and later added colorful LED lighting decorations. Walking through the tunnel is not only refreshingly cool, but also offers a mesmerizing light show that amazes visitors!
