Gongwei Tunnel Introduction

The "Gongweixu Tunnel," built in 1903 during the Meiji period, is located next to Maolishan Park. The tunnel, which is 460 meters long, features the three large characters "Gongweixu" at its northern entrance, inscribed by Taiwan's Governor-General Gotō Shinpei at the time. The tunnel was rendered unused in 1998 due to the dual-track railway system, and the county government renovated the tunnel to preserve this precious railway cultural asset. Colorful LED lights were later added as decorations, making the tunnel not only a refreshing walk, but also a stunning display of lights that amazes visitors!
