Kongwei-xu Tunnel Introduction

The "Gongweixu Tunnel," built in the 36th year of the Meiji era (1903), is located beside Maoli Mountain Park. The tunnel is 460 meters long, and the north entrance features the three large characters "Gongweixu," inscribed by the then Governor-General of Taiwan, Kodama Gentarō. In 1998, the tunnel was decommissioned due to the dual-track railway operation on the mountain line. To preserve this precious railway cultural asset, the county government renovated the tunnel and later added colorful LED lighting decorations. Walking through the tunnel is not only very cool, but the fantastical and vibrant light show also leaves visitors in awe!
