Gongwei Tunnel Introduction
The "Gongwei Tunnel," built in 1903 during the Meiji Era, is located next to Maolishan Park. The 460-meter-long tunnel features the characters "Gongwei" at its northern entrance, inscribed by Taiwan's Governor-General, Gentarō Kodama. The tunnel was decommissioned in 1998 due to the dual-track operation on the mountain line railway. To preserve this precious railway cultural asset, the county government renovated the tunnel and later added colorful LED lights for decoration. Walking through the tunnel not only provides a cool experience but also offers a spectacular and vibrant light show that leaves visitors in awe!
