Gongwei Creek Tunnel Introduction

The "Gongwei Xiu Tunnel," constructed in the 36th year of the Meiji era (1903), is located next to the Maoli Mountain Park. The tunnel, which is 460 meters long, has the characters "Gongwei Xiu" inscribed at its northern entrance, written by the then Governor-General of Taiwan, Kodama Gentarō. In 1998, the tunnel was decommissioned due to the dual-track operation of the Mountain Line Railway. To preserve this valuable railway cultural asset, the county government renovated the tunnel and later installed colorful LED lighting decorations. Walking through the tunnel not only provides a cool experience but also features a fantastical and vibrant light show that leaves visitors in awe!
