Gongwei Tunnel Introduction

The "Gongweixu Tunnel," built in the 36th year of the Meiji era (1903), is located next to Maoli Mountain Park. The tunnel, which is 460 meters long, features the three characters "Gongweixu" at its northern entrance, inscribed by the Governor-General of Taiwan, Gentarō Kodama. In 1998, the tunnel was decommissioned due to the dual-track operation of the Mountain Line Railway. To preserve this precious railway cultural asset, the county government renovated the tunnel and later added colorful LED lighting decorations. Walking through the tunnel not only offers a cool experience but also presents a fantastical and vibrant light show that is sure to amaze!
