Jiexiao Shrine Introduction
The Jie Xiao Shrine, a county-designated historic site located beside Gongyuan Road in Changhua City, is currently the only shrine in the country dedicated solely to the worship of chaste and virtuous women. It holds absolute value and significance in terms of local cultural meaning and architectural history.
Later, due to urban planning that required the road to be widened, it was forcibly demolished and relocated to its present site in the 12th year of the Taisho era (1923). The relocated Jiexiao Shrine has recently been restored, and its structural layout is not much different from the original. The layout is that of a quadrangle courtyard, featuring two halls and two corridors, in order: the Mountain and River Gate with two side rooms, the courtyard, pavilion, and main shrine. Next to the shrine, there is a green space and a century-old tree. Inside the Jiexiao Shrine, there are two major features: the wooden structure and the colorful paintings. Many of the carving techniques and painting methods are first seen in Taiwan, making them extremely valuable and worthy of careful appreciation.
