Lukang Ricemao Store Introduction
During the Jiaqing era, Lugang already had eight guilds, which are equivalent to today's commercial associations. The Ri Mao Hang, also known as "Ri Miao," was the largest business in the spring guild and was the wealthiest in Lugang from the Qianlong era to the 20th year of the Daoguang era (1840). The Lin family of Ri Mao Hang was the foremost among the eight guilds, known for their charitable acts. In the 42nd year of the Qianlong era (1777), they donated funds to establish the Lugang charitable organization "Jing Yi Yuan," engaging in various charitable works such as collecting written papers, establishing righteous tombs, collecting remains, and repairing bridges, benefiting the local community and becoming the largest charitable organization of its time. Additionally, Ri Mao Hang participated in local affairs such as the relocation of the Longshan Temple in Lugang in the 51st year of the Qianlong era (1786) and the construction of the Mazu Temple (now known as Xinzumiao) in the 52nd year of the Qianlong era (1787). The contributions and deeds of Ri Mao Hang to Lugang are still celebrated and remembered today.
