Lukang Rimao House Introduction

During the Qing Jiaqing period, Lugang already had eight guilds, with "guild" referring to the business associations of today. Ri Mao Hang, also known as "Sun Temple," was the largest trading firm among the guilds and was the richest in Lugang from the Qing Qianlong period to the 20th year of Daoguang (1840). The Lin family of Ri Mao Hang was the foremost among the eight guilds, known for their charitable deeds. In the 42nd year of Qianlong (1777), they donated funds to establish the Lugang charity organization "Jingyi Garden," which engaged in activities such as collecting paper for reuse, establishing righteous burial mounds, collecting remains, and repairing bridges, thus benefiting the local community and becoming the most significant charity organization of that time. Additionally, Ri Mao Hang participated in local affairs such as the relocation of Longshan Temple in Lugang in the 51st year of Qianlong (1786) and the construction of Tianhou Temple (now Xinzu Temple) in the 52nd year of Qianlong (1787). The contributions and deeds of Ri Mao Hang continue to be celebrated in Lugang to this day.
