Taiwan Craft House - Shih Tzu-Ho Art Studio Introduction
Craftsman: Shih Chih-Hui *Shih Chih-Hui was born in 1935 in Lukang. At the age of 16, he began apprenticing with his father, Shih Li, who was renowned for his expertise in creating deities, and learned deity sculpture and decorative Buddha art, solidifying his foundational skills and dedicating himself to the craft of carving and decorating for over seventy years. *He has mastered the Quanzhou style of decorative Buddha sculpture techniques, characterized by a robust structure, thoughtful composition, proportionality, exquisite elegance, a steady and solid style, as well as intricate and luxurious lacquer line techniques, merging these skills into a unique art form. *He has received numerous accolades, including the "Craft Achievement Award" from the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute in 2014, the "2014 Taiwan Woodcarving Heritage Award" from the Miaoli County Government, the title of National Living Treasure from the Council for Cultural Affairs in 2011, and was recognized as an intangible cultural asset for traditional crafts—a protector of decorative Buddha art—by the Changhua County Government in 2009, among others. *Shih Chih-Hui's artistic workshop is located at Lukang Mazu Temple, Lukang Old Street, and the Cultural Center among other attractions.
