Taiwan Craft Home - Shih Tzu-Ho Art Workshop Introduction
Craftsman: Shih Chih-Hui Shih Chih-Hui was born in 1935 in Lukang. Since the age of 16, he has learned the art of idol sculpture and decoration from his father Shih Li, who is renowned for his skills, thus solidifying his foundational skills and dedicating himself to the studies of carving and decoration for over seventy years. His techniques in the Quanzhou school of decoration sculpture are characterized by a structured framework, layout, proportion, a delicate and elegant style, as well as a stable and substantial approach combined with exquisitely ornate lacquer art, integrating with the concept of ascension, rendering his craftsmanship exceptional. In 2014, he received the "Craft Achievement Award" from the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute under the Ministry of Culture and the "2014 Taiwan Wood Sculpture Inheritor Award" from the Miaoli County Government. Additionally, he was recognized by the Executive Yuan's Council for Cultural Affairs as a National Living Treasure in 2011, registered as an intangible cultural asset for traditional crafts (idol decoration preservation) by the Changhua County Government in 2009, and received the 10th "Folk Art Inheritance Award" from the Ministry of Education in 1994, among other honors. Shih Chih-Hui’s art studio is located near the Mazu Temple, Lukang Old Street, and the Cultural and Arts Center in Lukang.
