Taiwan Craft House - Shih Tzu-Ho Art Studio Introduction
Craftsman: Shih Chih-Hui * Shih Chih-Hui was born in 1935 in Lukang. At the age of 16, he began learning deity statue carving—particularly beautifying Buddha statues—under the guidance of his father, Shih Li, who is renowned as "Divine Knife." He has solidified his foundational skills and dedicated himself to the craft of carving and beautifying Buddha statues for over seventy years. * The Quanzhou School of Buddha statue sculpting techniques features a strong structure, layout, proportion, a delicate and elegant style, a steady and solid presence, and exquisite and splendid lacquer techniques, which he seamlessly integrates. His craftsmanship is exceptional. * In 2014, he received the "Craft Achievement Award" from the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute of the Ministry of Culture and the "2014 Taiwan Woodcarving Succession Award" from the Miaoli County Government. He was recognized as a "National Treasure" by the Council for Cultural Affairs in 2011, registered as an intangible cultural asset of Changhua County in 2009 for traditional crafts—preserver of beautifying Buddha statues and honored with the "Ethnic Arts Succession Award" by the Ministry of Education in 1994, among other accolades. * Shih's studio is located near attractions such as the Tianhou Temple in Lukang, Lukang Old Street, and the Cultural and Creative Center.
