Taiwan Craft House - Shih Tzu-Ho Art Studio Introduction
Craftsman: Shih Chih-Hui * Shih Chih-Hui was born in 1935 in Lukang. At the age of 16, he began learning statue carving and embellishment techniques under his father Shih Li, who is renowned for the "Divine Knife." He solidified his basic skills and has been dedicated to the study of carving and embellishment craftsmanship for over seventy years. * The Quanzhou school's embellishment sculpture technique features a heavy-framed structure, layout, proportion, an elegant and refined style, a stable and substantial quality, and exquisite and magnificent lacquer techniques, all of which are harmoniously integrated into his work, showcasing unparalleled skill. * In 2014, he received the "Craft Achievement Award" from the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute of the Ministry of Culture, and the "2014 Taiwan Wood Carving Heritage Award" from the Miaoli County Government; in 2011, he was recognized by the Executive Yuan's Council for Cultural Affairs (Living National Treasure), in 2009, he was registered by the Changhua County Government as an Intangible Cultural Heritage/Traditional Craft—preserver of embellishment sculpture, and in 1994 he received the 10th "Ethnic Arts Heritage Award" from the Ministry of Education, among other honors. * Shih Chih-Hui's art workshop is located near the Mazu Temple, Lukang Old Street, and Cultural & Creative Park in Lukang.
