The Lugang Folk Arts Museum was originally the ancestral home of the prominent Taiwanese family, the Koo family. In order to preserve the traditional culture of Lugang, the Koo family donated the land, buildings, furniture, utensils, and collections of their ancestral home in 1973, and established a foundation to manage and operate it over the long term, creating a museum that reflects local characteristics.
The museum is divided into two buildings: one is a traditional Minnan-style building named "Gufeng Building," which has a history of over 200 years, and the other is a nearly 100-year-old Baroque-style building from the late Renaissance period known as "Western Building." The museum houses over 6,000 pieces of collections, mainly focusing on folk artifacts from the mid-Qing dynasty to the early Republic of China, showcasing various aspects of daily life such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, entertainment, and religious customs, as well as festival celebrations, fully displaying the essence of folk culture.
Gufeng Building is an 18th-century brick-and-wood structure, a traditional example of Minnan architecture that exudes ancient charm, reflecting the deep ambiance of a courtyard, making it a great place to appreciate the traditional Minnan-style grand residence.
