Sun Moon Lake Hanbi Trail Introduction
The starting point of the Hanbi Trail is Meihe Park. The trail is approximately 1.5 kilometers long, gently winding and surrounded by the waterfront of Hanbi Peninsula, making it a popular route suitable for all ages. The steps are made from simple stones. Along the trail, there is an early dock built specifically for Mr. Chiang Kai-shek, located below Hanbi Pavilion, which is now a historical site with a guard booth to prevent general access. Walking here in the early morning, one can see various birds such as colorful birds, Taiwan laughing thrush, and others active in the forest. At the dock by the pond, visitors can enjoy the beautiful views of Cien Pagoda, Lalu Island, and the surrounding mountains and waters. Yule Pavilion is the best spot to overlook the Qingshui Mountain Range and Lalu Island; with careful observation, one can appreciate the geographical wonders of the legend of the Azure Dragon stealing a pearl. The direct view of Lalu Island in the pond, along with Xuangong Temple, Xuanzang Temple on Qingshui Mountain, and Cien Pagoda on Shabalang Mountain forms a "Happiness Connection," where many visitors enjoy making wishes for happiness. On both sides of the trail, fragrant shrubs like osmanthus and gardenias, which were the favorites of Madam Chiang, are planted. From the trail, the view of Sun Moon Lake appears as a mirror, reflecting the misty mountains, creating picturesque scenery. Chiang Kai-shek and his wife often strolled along the Hanbi Trail to admire the beauty of Sun Moon Lake during their lifetime. This place has hosted many renowned figures both domestically and internationally, holding an important position in modern history.
