Sun Moon Lake Hanbi Trail Introduction
The starting point of the Hanbi Trail is Meihe Park. The trail is approximately 1.5 kilometers long, gently winding around the waterfront of the Hanbi Peninsula, passing through shaded areas filled with flowers and trees, making it a popular route suitable for all ages. The steps are made of simple stone blocks. Along the trail, below the Hanbi Pavilion, there is an early dock built specifically for Mr. Chiang Kai-shek, which has a guard booth to prevent general public access and has now become a historical site. Walking through it in the early morning, you can see various birds such as the colorful bird, the red-headed bush warbler, and the eye-browed thrush active in the woods. At the dock by the pond, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the Cien Pagoda, Lalu Island, and the surrounding mountains and waters. The Yule Pavilion is the best spot for a distant view of the Qingshui Mountain Range and Lalu Island. With careful observation, one can appreciate the geographical wonders related to the legend of the Azure Dragon seizing a pearl. The alignment of Lalu Island in the pond, the Xuanguang Temple, the Xuangzang Temple on Qingshui Mountain, and the Cien Pagoda on the top of Shabalang Mountain forms a "happiness connection," where many visitors enjoy making wishes for happiness. On both sides of the trail, fragrant shrubs such as sweet osmanthus and gardenias, which were favored by Madame Chiang, are planted. From the trail, one can gaze out at Sun Moon Lake, where the water surface mirrors the hazy mountain colors, creating picturesque scenery. The Chiang couple often strolled along the Hanbi Trail to admire the beauty of Sun Moon Lake during their lifetime. This place has hosted many renowned figures and plays an important role in modern history.
