Sun Moon Lake Hanbi Trail Introduction
The starting point of the Hanbi Trail is Meihe Park. The trail is approximately 1.5 kilometers long, gently winding around the waterfront of Hanbi Peninsula, surrounded by trees and flowers, making it a popular route suitable for all ages. The steps are made of simple stone blocks. At the side of the trail, below the Hanbi Pavilion, there is an early pier built specifically for Chiang Kai-shek, which is now a historical site; a guard station was established to prevent general public access. A morning stroll here allows you to see vibrant birds such as the multicolored bird, the Taiwan whistling thrush, and the chestnut-eared bunting across the forest. Arriving at the pier by the lake allows for stunning views of the Cien Pagoda, Lalu Island, and the surrounding lush mountains and waters. The Yule Pavilion is the best spot to view the Qinglong Mountain Range and Lalu Island; by observing closely, one can appreciate the geographic mystery of the legend of the Qinglong seizing the pearl. Aligning with Lalu Island in the lake and the Xuangong Temple and Xuanzang Temple on Qinglong Mountain, as well as the Cien Pagoda on Shabalan Mountain, forms a "Happiness Connection," where many tourists like to make wishes for happiness. On both sides of the trail, aromatic flowering shrubs such as osmanthus and gardenias, favorites of Madam Chiang, are planted. From the trail, Sun Moon Lake can be seen, its surface like a mirror reflecting the hazy mountain colors, creating a picturesque scene. The Chiang couple often walked along the Hanbi Trail to admire the beauty of Sun Moon Lake during their lifetime. This location has hosted many renowned figures from both domestic and international backgrounds, holding significant importance in modern history.
