Sun Moon Lake Hanbi Trail Introduction
The starting point of the Hanbi Trail is Meihe Park. The trail is approximately 1.5 kilometers long, gently winding around the waterfront of Hanbi Peninsula, and meanders through shaded areas filled with flowers and trees, making it a popular route for all ages. The steps are built with simple stone blocks. Along the trail, beneath the Hanbi Pavilion, there is an early dock built specifically for Mr. Chiang Kai-shek, which is now a historical site, guarded by a watchtower to prevent public access. In the early morning, one can see a variety of birds such as the five-colored bird, the Taiwan whistling thrush, and the Eurasian wren active among the trees. At the dock by the lake, visitors can enjoy views of Cien Pagoda, Lalu Island, and the surrounding mountains and green waters. The Yule Pavilion is the best spot for a distant view of the Qinglong Mountain Range and Lalu Island; careful observation can reveal the geographical marvel of the legend of the Qinglong snatching the pearl. The line connecting Lalu Island in the lake, Xuanguang Temple, Xuanzang Temple on Qinglong Mountain, and Cien Pagoda on Shabalan Mountain forms a "line of happiness," where many tourists like to make their wishes. On both sides of the trail, fragrant shrubs like sweet osmanthus and gardenias, favored by Madame Chiang, are planted. From the trail, one can admire Sun Moon Lake, its surface like a mirror reflecting the hazy mountains, creating picturesque scenery. Chiang Kai-shek and his wife often strolled along the Hanbi Trail to enjoy the beautiful views of Sun Moon Lake during their lifetimes. This place has hosted many well-known figures both domestically and internationally, and holds significant importance in modern history.
