Sun Moon Lake Hanbi Trail Introduction
The starting point of the Hanbi Trail is Meihe Park. The trail is approximately 1.5 kilometers long, gently winding around the water's edge of Hanbi Peninsula, surrounded by lush greenery, making it an accessible route for people of all ages. The steps are constructed of simple stones. Along the trail, under the Hanbi Building, there is an early dock built specifically for Chiang Kai-shek, which is now a historical site. Near the dock, a watch station is set up to prevent general public access. Strolling through the trail in the early morning, you might see various birds such as the colorful bird, the Taiwainese robin, and the staring minnow. At the dock by the pond, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Cien Pagoda, Lalu Island, and the beautiful mountains and waters. The Yule Pavilion is the best spot to overlook the Qingshui Mountain Range and Lalu Island. Observing closely, one can appreciate the geographical wonders of the legend of the Qingshui Dragon stealing the pearl. Directly facing Lalu Island in the pond and Xuanguang Temple and Xuanzang Temple on Qingshui Mountain, along with the Cien Pagoda atop Shabalang Mountain, forms a "line of happiness," where many visitors like to make wishes for happiness. On both sides of the trail, fragrant shrubs such as osmanthus and gardenia, which were the favorites of Madame Chiang, are planted. From the trail, you can gaze at Sun Moon Lake, with its mirror-like surface reflecting the misty mountain scenery, creating a picturesque view. Chiang Kai-shek and his wife often strolled along the Hanbi Trail to enjoy the beauty of Sun Moon Lake during their lifetime. This place has hosted many renowned figures, playing an important role in modern history.
