Sun Moon Lake Hanbi Trail Introduction
The starting point of the Hanbi Trail is Meihe Park. The trail is approximately 1.5 kilometers long, gently winding and surrounding the waterfront of the Hanbi Peninsula, weaving through shaded trees and flowers, making it a popular route suitable for all ages. The stairs are made of simple stone blocks. Along the trail, there is a dock built early on specifically for Mr. Chiang Kai-shek located under the Hanbi Pavilion, which has a guardhouse to prevent general access and has now become a historical site. Early morning walks here allow you to see various bird species such as the five-colored bird, the mountain redhead, and the Chinese thrush. At the dock by the pond, visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Cien Pagoda, Lalu Island, and the surrounding mountains and green waters. The Yule Pavilion is the best spot to overlook the Qingshan Mountain range and Lalu Island; careful observation reveals the geographical wonders associated with the legend of the Azure Dragon seizing pearls. Directly opposite Lalu Island in the pond, as well as the Xuanguang Temple and Xuanzang Temple on Qingshan Mountain, along with the Cien Pagoda on Shabalan Mountain, form a "Happiness Connection," where many visitors love to make wishes for happiness. The sides of the trail are also planted with fragrant shrubs such as sweet osmanthus and gardenias, which were Mrs. Chiang's favorites. From the trail, the view of Sun Moon Lake is like a mirror, reflecting the hazy mountains, creating a picturesque scene. The Chiang couple often took walks on the Hanbi Trail during their lifetime to admire the beauty of Sun Moon Lake. This place has hosted many renowned figures both domestically and internationally and holds an important position in modern history.
