Lalu Island Introduction
Lalu Island, a landmark of Sun Moon Lake, is said to be the residence of the highest ancestor spirit of the Thao people and was also one of their early settlements. Throughout different eras and contexts, it has been referred to by various names; during the Qing Dynasty, it was documented as "Zhu Yu," "Zhu Shan," or "Zhu Zi Shan"; the Japanese referred to it as "Yukushima," and after World War II, the Kuomintang government renamed it "Guanghua Island," meaning "Illuminating China."
