Lalu Island Introduction
Lalu Island, a landmark of Sun Moon Lake, is said to be the dwelling place of the highest ancestor spirit of the Thao people and was one of the early settlements of the Thao tribe. Throughout different eras and contexts, it has been known by several other names; during the Qing Dynasty, it was referred to as "Zhu Yu," "Zhu Mountain," or "Zhu Zi Mountain"; the Japanese called it "Yushima"; after World War II, the Kuomintang government renamed it "Guanghua Island," meaning "Illuminating China."
