Lalu Island Introduction
Lalu Island, a landmark of Sun Moon Lake, is said to be the dwelling of the highest ancestral spirits of the Thao people and was one of their early settlements. Throughout different eras and contexts, it has been referred to by several different names. During the Qing Dynasty, it was documented as "Zhu Yu," "Zhu Mountain," and "Zhuzi Mountain." The Japanese referred to it as "Tamatejima." After World War II, the Kuomintang government renamed it "Guanghua Island," meaning "Brilliant China."
