Lalu Island Introduction
Lalu Island, a landmark of Sun Moon Lake, is said to be the dwelling place of the highest ancestral spirits of the Thao people and was one of their early settlements. Throughout different eras and contexts, it has been referred to by several different names; during the Qing Dynasty, it was documented as "Zhu Yu," "Zhu Mountain," and "Zhuzi Mountain." The Japanese named it "Yushima," and after World War II, the Kuomintang government renamed it "Guanghua Island," meaning "Radiant China."
