Fangliao Fishing Port Introduction
In the past, approaching Fangliao Fishing Harbor would reveal bamboo rafts, filled to capacity, dedicated to transporting catches. The bamboo rafts gently swayed with the waves, seemingly humming a cheerful tune as they awaited their next delivery task. However, with the rise of coastal fisheries, advancements in fishing techniques and transportation equipment have resulted in the continuous expansion of Fangliao Fishing Harbor to its current scale, and it was designated as a second-class fishing port in 1996, yet this has not diminished the harbor's rustic and tranquil atmosphere. The aquaculture techniques in Fangliao are quite mature, consisting of saltwater fish ponds for raising grouper, snapper, and prawns, as well as freshwater ponds primarily for giant river prawns, eels, and tilapia, covering a total area of 650 hectares with around twenty to thirty types of high-value economy fish being cultivated. The cage-net aquaculture employed in Fangliao, although a high-cost fishing technique, has the least environmental impact and, importantly, the fresh produce offered is not only flavorful but also reasonably priced. On the streets of the fishing village, aside from the various seafood dishes provided by the numerous ocean product shops, it is not difficult to find snacks with varying flavors such as fried anchovy, anchovy soup, and anchovy stew, as Fangliao Fishing Harbor is one of the production areas for anchovies. To taste the freshest anchovies, one can head north to Toucheng or south to Fangliao; for purchasing seafood, the Fangliao Fishermen’s Association also operates a fresh catch supermarket where fishermen directly sell a variety of fresh produce at reasonable prices. As dusk approaches, heading toward the pier, the harbor is filled with various fishing boats, and you can often see anglers sitting on the pier or breakwater, enjoying the pleasures of sea fishing. Following the coastal walkway toward the end of the breakwater, the setting sun casts long shadows that reflect on the waves, fishing boats, walkway, and anglers, creating a beautiful and serene sunset scene.
