Fangliao Fishing Harbor Introduction
In the past, approaching Fangliao Fishing Port, you would see bamboo rafts docked, fully utilized for ferrying catches. The gently swaying rafts, like they were humming a pleasant song, await their next transport mission. However, with the rise of nearshore fishing, advancements in fishing techniques and transportation equipment have followed, leading Fangliao Fishing Port to gradually expand to its current scale. It was elevated to a second-class fishing port in the 85th year of the Republic of China, yet its simple and tranquil atmosphere remains untouched. The aquaculture techniques in Fangliao are quite mature, encompassing saltwater fish ponds for breeding grouper, snapper, and grass shrimp, as well as freshwater ponds mainly for breeding giant river prawns, eels, and tilapia, with a total farming area of 650 hectares, cultivating as many as twenty to thirty economically valuable fish species. The cage aquaculture used in the Fangliao area, although a high-cost fishing technique, minimizes environmental impact, and most importantly, the fish products provided are not only fresh and delicious but also affordable. When visiting the fishing village street, apart from various seafood dishes offered by the numerous seafood shops, you can easily find snacks with diverse flavors, such as fried anchovy, anchovy soup, and anchovy porridge since Fangliao Fishing Port is one of the production areas for anchovies. To taste the freshest anchovies, head north to Toucheng or south to Fangliao; if you're looking to purchase seafood, the Fangliao Fishermen's Association operates a fresh seafood supermarket, where fishermen sell fresh and varied catches at reasonable prices directly. As dusk approaches and you walk toward the pier, the harbor is already filled with various fishing boats, and you can often see anglers enjoying the pleasures of sea fishing while sitting on the pier or breakwater. Walking along the coastal trail toward the end of the dyke, the sunset casts a long shadow, illuminating the sea waves, fishing boats, path, and fishermen, creating a beautifully tranquil sunset scene.
