Fangliao Fishing Port Introduction
In the past, approaching Fangliao Fishing Port, one would see bamboo rafts fully docked, exclusively for transporting catches, gently swaying with the waves like they were humming a joyful tune, waiting for the next delivery task. However, with the rise of coastal fishing, advancements in fishing techniques and transportation methods have led to the continuous expansion of Fangliao Fishing Port to its current scale. It was upgraded to a second-class fishing port in 1996, yet it still retains the simple and tranquil atmosphere of a fishing harbor. The aquaculture techniques in Fangliao are quite mature, divided into saltwater ponds for breeding grouper, snapper, and grass shrimp, as well as freshwater ponds primarily for breeding river prawns, eels, and tilapia, with a total farming area reaching 650 hectares, cultivating as many as twenty to thirty species of high-economic-value fish. Although the cage culture method used in Fangliao is a high-cost fishing technology, it is the least environmentally damaging farming approach. Most importantly, the fish products offered are not only fresh and delicious but also reasonably priced. In the fishing village, besides the various seafood dishes provided by the numerous seafood shops along the street, one can also easily find a variety of snacks such as fried larval fish, larval fish soup, and larval fish stew, as Fangliao Fishing Port is one of the production areas for larval fish. To taste the freshest larval fish, head north to Toucheng or south to Fangliao; if you want to purchase seafood, the Fangliao Fishermen’s Association also operates a direct sales fresh seafood supermarket where fishermen sell a wide variety of fresh catches at affordable prices. In the twilight, heading towards the docks, a variety of fishing boats fill the harbor, and one can often see anglers sitting on the dock or breakwater, enjoying the fun of sea fishing. Following the coastal walkway towards the end of the breakwater, the setting sun casts a long shadow, illuminating the waves, fishing boats, path, and anglers, creating a beautiful and serene sunset scene.
