Menmaluo Mountain Introduction
Menma Luoshān is located at the southernmost end of the Central Mountain Range, characterized by low-altitude hilly terrain with a highest peak of only 305 meters and a relatively flat landscape. The name "Menma Luoshān" has an interesting origin; due to the complexity of the mountain trails that often lead people to lose their way, locals jokingly referred to this mountain as "Mō Wú Lù Shān," which phonetically evolved into the name Menma Luoshān. Given its gentle terrain and simplicity, Menma Luoshān is suitable for cycling trips. Riding along the mountain paths, one is greeted with a lush landscape filled with varying shades of green, creating a vibrant scene that remains captivating despite its simplicity. As one crosses the vast grasslands, there are no dense forests obstructing the view, only a light and pleasant atmosphere that makes it easy to connect with the raw beauty of the mountains. Leaving behind the tall grass areas unveils refreshing vistas, with rolling mountains presenting a magnificent sight, and quaint villages surrounded by mountain ranges exuding a peaceful vibe. The 'Couple Trees' nearby evoke a sense of connection between heaven and earth, accompanied by the historic Qiongma Ancient Path, which recalls the former prosperity of Hengchun. The Couple Trees are linked to an inspiring love story about a pair of affectionate lovers who, unable to gain acceptance from their parents, vowed beneath the trees to remain devoted to each other. Their sincerity eventually moved heaven, granting them a marriage. It is said that couples who make vows in front of the Couple Trees will have a successful marriage. Qiongma, a drought-resistant and hardy fiber plant, serves as a primary raw material for making hemp rope. Due to the hot climate and poor soil conditions of the Hengchun Peninsula, it provided ideal growing conditions for Qiongma, making it one of the three treasures of Hengchun and a significant economic crop that once contributed to the region's prosperity. However, with advancements in rope-making technology, the Qiongma industry has gradually declined. A visit to Menma Luoshān not only offers natural beauty but also evokes memories of a rich historical legacy.
