Jia Le Shui Scenic Area Introduction
Jialeshui, originally named Jialuo Water, was renamed by Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo during an inspection in 1975, hoping for peace and prosperity in the area. The Jialeshui Scenic Area is located near North Cape, geographically positioned between mountains and the sea, and the geology here consists of layered sandstone. This area marks the transition between coral reef coasts and sandstone coasts, extending northwards with a sandstone coastal landscape distinct from the coral reef coastline south of the Hengchun Peninsula. The rock layers have been sculpted into various shapes due to long-term erosion by strong winds and ocean currents, featuring unique geological landscapes such as stone pearls, potholes, honeycomb stones, checkerboard stones, and marine erosion platforms. Additionally, there are many vividly shaped rocks that evoke imagination, including rabbit stones, frog stones, turtle stones, and honeycomb stones, contributing to the area's rich and diverse beauty. Apart from the remarkable rock formations, the Jialeshui Scenic Area also boasts a 30-meter high "Mountain-Sea Waterfall," a rare coastal waterfall in Taiwan and the only major waterfall visible in the Kenting area. Visitors can reach it by following the stone-paved paths within the scenic area. However, the water flow of the Mountain-Sea Waterfall is dependent on the dry and rainy seasons; during the rainy season, ample water rushes down from the mountain top with impressive momentum, while in the dry season, the water flows gently like a delicate girl. The coastal area of Jialeshui is traversed by the Kuroshio Current, making its marine resources abundant. From February to July, it is peak season for swordfish and milkfish, and various marine creatures like sea urchins, conchs, tropical fish, parrotfish, lobsters, coquinas, and mudskippers can be seen gathering near the shore. Different species of large whales and dolphins are also frequently spotted here, making it not only a paradise for sea fishing but also an excellent spot for whale watching.
