Jialeshui Scenic Area Introduction
Jialeshui, originally named Jialuo Water, was renamed by Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo during his inspection in 1975, with the hope that the area would be peaceful and prosperous. Jialeshui Scenic Area is located near the northern harbor bay of Eluanbi and is situated against the mountains, facing the sea. The geological composition here is layered sandstone, and it marks the boundary between coral reef coastline and sandstone coastline. From here, it extends northward into a sandstone coastal terrain, which differs from the coral reef coast on the southern side of the Hengchun Peninsula. The rock layers have been eroded over time by strong winds and ocean currents, creating numerous bizarre rock formations such as stone pearls, potholes, honeycomb rocks, checkerboard stones, and wave-cut platforms, as well as imaginative shapes like rabbit stones, frog stones, sea turtle stones, and checkerboard stones. In addition to the rock formations, Jialeshui Scenic Area also features a "Mountain-Sea Waterfall" that rises 30 meters high. This is a rare coastal waterfall in Taiwan and is the only significant waterfall in the Kenting area visible from this location. Visitors can access it by walking along the stone trail established in the scenic area. However, the flow of the Mountain-Sea Waterfall depends on the dry and rainy seasons; during the rainy season, the abundant water cascades down from the mountain top with overwhelming force, while in the dry season, the flow is gentler like a delicate girl. The coastal area of Jialeshui is influenced by the Kuroshio current, making it rich in marine resources. From February to July, it is the peak season for sailfish and milkfish, and one can often see various marine life such as sea urchins, shellfish, tropical fish, snapper, lobsters, clams, and mudskippers congregating near the shore. Various species of large whales and dolphins also frequent this area, making it not only a fishing paradise but also a great spot for whale watching.
