Jialeshui Scenic Area Introduction
Jiale Water, originally known as Jialuo Water, was renamed by Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo during his inspection in 1975, wishing for peace and prosperity in the area. Jiale Water Scenic Area is located near the northern harbor bay of Eluanbi, with a geographical setting that has mountains at the back and the sea in front. The geology consists of layered sandstone, and this area marks the boundary between coral reef coastline and sandstone coastline. The shoreline extends north, characterized by sandstone terrain, which is different from the coral reef coastline in the southern area of the Hengchun Peninsula. Due to long-term erosion by strong winds and ocean currents, the rock layers here have been sculpted into various unique formations, such as stone beads, pot holes, honeycomb stones, checkerboard stones, and wave-eroded flat stones. There are also many vividly shaped rocks, such as rabbit stones, frog stones, sea turtle stones, and various other imaginative forms that enhance the area's rich and diverse beauty. In addition to the unique rock formations, the Jiale Water Scenic Area features a 30-meter-high "Mountain-Sea Waterfall," which is a rare coastal waterfall in Taiwan and the only large waterfall visible in the Kenting area. Visitors can reach it by walking along the stone slab trail built in the scenic area. However, the water flow of the Mountain-Sea Waterfall depends on the dry and wet seasons; during the wet season, a torrent of water cascades down from the mountain top, displaying a magnificent sight, while in the dry season, the flow is gentle and delicate like a petite maiden. The coastal area of Jiale Water also benefits from the Kuroshio current, which enriches its marine resources. From February to July each year, it is the peak season for sailfish and milkfish. Nearshore, one can often see various marine creatures such as sea cucumbers, conch, tropical fish, snapper, lobsters, clams, and mudskippers gathering together. Different species of large whales and dolphins are often spotted here, making it not only a paradise for sea fishing but also a great spot for whale watching.
