Jia Le Shui Scenic Area Introduction
Jialeshui, originally named Jialuo Water, was renamed by Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo during his inspection in 1975, hoping for harmony and prosperity in the area. The Jialeshui Scenic Area is located near the harbor bay north of Eluanbi, with a geographical position that has mountains behind and faces the sea. The geological formation consists of layered sandstone, and it marks the point where the coral reef coastline meets the sandstone coastline, which then extends northward into sandstone coastal terrain, distinct from the coral reef coastline of the southern Hengchun Peninsula. Due to long-term erosion from strong winds and ocean currents, the rock layers here have been sculpted into various bizarre rock formations, such as stone beads, potholes, honeycomb stones, checkerboard stones, and wave-eroded platforms. Additionally, many vividly shaped rocks like rabbit stones, frog stones, turtle stones, checkerboard stones, and honeycomb stones add to the rich array of beautiful names. Apart from the unique rock formations, the Jialeshui Scenic Area also features a 30-meter-high "Mountain-Sea Waterfall," which is a rare seaside waterfall in Taiwan and the only large waterfall visible in the Kenting area, accessible by walking to the end of the stone plank path built in the scenic area. However, the water flow of the Mountain-Sea Waterfall, which cascades from the cliffs into the sea, varies with the dry and rainy seasons. During the rainy season, the abundant water flows down from the mountain top in an impressive rush, while in the dry season, the water flows down gently like a graceful young girl. The coastal area of Jialeshui happens to be traversed by the Kuroshio warm current, resulting in rich marine resources. From February to July each year, it is the peak season for swordfish and milkfish, and one can often see various marine animals, including sea cucumbers, conchs, tropical fish, parrotfish, lobsters, clams, and mudskippers, gathering in the nearshore areas. Different species of large whales and dolphins are also frequently spotted here, making it not only a paradise for sea fishing but also a great spot for whale watching.
