Duyuan Garden Introduction
Located in Chihshang Township, Taitung, "Du Garden," officially known as "Du Jinchih Memorial Garden," was established by the philanthropist Mr. Du Junyuan, who grew wealthy through the electronics industry. To express his gratitude to his father, Mr. Du Jinchih, and mother, Mrs. Wang Yuan, for their upbringing and to give back to the community, Mr. Du funded the transformation of his parents' ancestral home and the original Jin-feng Rice Factory, covering over 2,000 ping, into a spacious venue for local community activities. The garden aims to purify hearts, serve the public, promote cultural education, and foster social harmony. It regularly hosts artistic, cultural, and social education exhibitions and offers free facilities for various beneficial and health-promoting activities. The park includes a memorial hall, conference room, accommodation suites, activity center, scenic garden, herb garden, artificial hill, lotus pond, pavilion, expansive lawn, parking area, and tens of thousands of years old petrified wood from Indonesia, available for use by community groups and for educational and research purposes, and it is open to the public for free visits. In this elegantly landscaped garden, one can find phrases from Tzu Chi's Silent Teaching inscribed on the pavilion and stone slabs, adding a touch of wisdom to the tranquil environment. To preserve medicinal plants, the herb garden collects over 100 species of precious herbs, allowing visitors to learn and study while also collaborating with the Taitung County Agricultural Research Institute for technical guidance on various rare herbs for research purposes.
