Du Garden Introduction
Located in Chihshang Township, Taitung, "Du Garden" or "Du Jin-Zhi Memorial Garden" is established by Mr. Du Jun-Yuan, a philanthropist who became wealthy through his electronic business. To honor his father, Mr. Du Jin-Zhi, and mother, Mrs. Wang Yuan, for their nurturing teachings and to give back to the community, he funded the transformation of the ancestral residence of his parents and the original Jin-Feng Rice Factory, covering an area of over 2,000 ping, into a spacious venue for local community organizations to hold events. The garden aims to purify the human heart, serve the public, promote cultural education, and enhance social harmony. Regular cultural and educational exhibitions are held, and various legitimate and health-promoting activities are offered free of charge upon application. The garden features a memorial hall, conference hall, accommodation suites, activity center, landscaped garden, herb garden, artificial hill, lotus pond, pavilions, expansive lawns, parking lot, and areas showcasing ancient petrified wood from Indonesia, available for public group applications for space and educational research. The general public is also welcome to enter the garden for free. Within the elegantly landscaped garden, visitors can find inscriptions of Tzu Chi's sayings etched onto pavilions and stone slabs, adding a layer of wisdom to the tranquil environment. To prevent the loss of medicinal plants, the herb garden collects over 100 varieties of precious herbs, which are open for visitors to learn about and research, with technical guidance provided by the Taitung County Agricultural Research and Extension Station.
