Du Garden Introduction
Located in Chihshang Township, Taitung, "Du Garden," officially known as "Du Jinchih Memorial Garden," was established by philanthropist Mr. Du Junyuan, who made his fortune in the electronics industry. In gratitude for the upbringing received from his father, Mr. Du Jinchih, and mother, Ms. Wang Yuan, and to give back to the community, he invested in transforming the ancestral home where his parents lived along with the original Jinfeng Rice Factory into a spacious area of over 2,000 ping. This space is intended for local community organizations to hold activities, while also purifying the hearts of people, serving the public, promoting cultural education, and fostering social harmony. Regular art and educational exhibitions and activities are held, and the venue is available for free to various groups to conduct legitimate and beneficial activities for physical and mental health. The garden features a memorial hall, conference room, accommodation suites, activity center, landscaped garden, herb garden, rockery, lotus pond, pavilion, expansive lawn, parking lot, and areas housing thousands of years-old petrified wood from Indonesia, available for community groups to apply for use in research and teaching. It is also open for the general public to visit for free. In the elegantly landscaped garden, inscriptions of Tzu Chi's words of wisdom can be seen on the pavilion and stones, adding to the serene environment with a touch of wisdom. To prevent the loss of medicinal plants, the herb garden collects over 100 varieties of precious herbs, which are open for tourists to visit and for the public to learn and research, with technical guidance provided by the Taitung County Agricultural Improvement Station for various valuable herbs used for research purposes.
