Du Garden Introduction
Located in Chih-shang Township, Taitung, "Du Garden," officially named "Du Jin-zhi Memorial Garden," was established by Mr. Du Jun-yuan, a philanthropist who grew wealthy through the electronics industry. In gratitude to his father, Mr. Du Jin-zhi, and mother, Ms. Wang Yuan, for their upbringing, and in a spirit of giving back to the community, he funded the transformation of his parents' ancestral home and the original Jin-fong Rice Mill, covering over 2,000 ping of land, into a spacious venue for community activities. The garden aims to purify minds, serve the public, promote cultural education, and foster social harmony. It regularly hosts cultural and educational exhibitions and offers free space for various legitimate and health-promoting activities upon application. The facility includes a memorial hall, conference room, accommodation suites, activity center, landscaped gardens, herb garden, rockery, lotus pond, pavilions, expansive lawns, parking lot, and thousands of years old petrified wood from Indonesia, available for public groups for use and educational research. It is also open for free public visits. In the elegantly landscaped garden, visitors can find the words of Tzu Chi's Jing Si aphorisms engraved on the pavilions and stone slabs, adding wisdom to the serene environment. To prevent the loss of medicinal plants, the herb garden collects over 100 rare medicinal herbs, open to visitors for study and research, with technical guidance provided by the Taitung County Agricultural Improvement Station for various valuable herbs for research purposes.
