Du Yuan Introduction
Located in Chihshang Township, Taitung, "Du Garden," officially known as the "Du Jin-Zhi Memorial Garden," was established by the philanthropist Mr. Du Jun-Yuan, a local who became wealthy through the electronics industry. In gratitude to his father, Mr. Du Jin-Zhi, and his mother, Ms. Wang Yuan, for their upbringing, he invested in transforming the ancestral home where his parents lived, along with the original Jin-Feng Rice Mill, which spans over 2,000 ping, into a spacious area for community activities. The garden aims to purify the hearts of individuals, serve the public, promote cultural education, and foster social harmony by regularly hosting arts and educational exhibitions. It also offers venues free of charge for various legitimate and health-promoting activities. The garden features a memorial hall, conference hall, accommodation suites, activity center, landscape garden, herb garden, rockery, lotus pond, pavilions, expansive lawns, a parking lot, and areas with thousands of years old petrified wood from Indonesia, available for public groups to apply for space and for educational research. Additionally, the garden is open for free visits to the general public. In this elegantly landscaped garden, visitors can find quotes from Tzu Chi's Jing Si Abode inscribed on pavilions and stone slabs, adding an element of wisdom to the tranquil environment. To prevent the loss of medicinal plants, the herb garden has gathered over 100 types of precious herbs, which are not only open for visitor exploration but also provide opportunities for the public to learn and conduct research, with technical guidance from the Taitung County Agricultural Improvement Station for various precious herbs for research purposes.
