Du Garden Introduction
Located in Chihshang Township, Taitung, "Du Garden," officially named "Du Jin-Zhi Memorial Garden," was established by philanthropist Mr. Du Jun-Yuan, who became wealthy through his electronics business. In gratitude to his father, Mr. Du Jin-Zhi, and mother, Mrs. Wang Yuan, for their upbringing and blessings, he funded the renovation of his parents' ancestral home and the original Jin-Feng Rice Mill, covering an area of over 2,000 ping, into a spacious venue for local community groups to hold activities. The garden aims to purify hearts, serve the public, promote cultural education, and foster social harmony. Regular cultural and educational exhibitions are organized, and various legitimate and beneficial activities for physical and mental health are provided free of charge upon application from different sectors. The park includes a memorial hall, conference hall, accommodation suites, activity center, scenic garden, herb garden, rockery, lotus pond, pavilions, vast lawns, parking lot, and areas featuring thousands of years old petrified wood sourced from Indonesia. These spaces are available for public groups to apply for use, along with academic and research purposes. The garden is also open to the general public for free visits. Within the elegantly landscaped garden, one can observe inscriptions of Tzu Chi's messages on the pavilions and stone slabs, further enhancing the wisdom imparted in this tranquil environment. To prevent the loss of medicinal plants, over 100 precious herbs have been collected in the herb garden, which is accessible to tourists for recognition and research, with technical guidance provided by the Taitung County Agricultural Improvement Station to offer various precious herbs for research purposes.
