Luming Suspension Bridge Scenic Area Introduction
Luming Suspension Bridge is located in Yanping Township, Taitung, at the junction of Yanping, Luye, and Beinan Townships. Built in 1959, it was one of the main bridges of the old Provincial Highway 9 and is a steel cable suspension bridge approximately 100 meters long. After the highway was straightened in 1984 and the new Luming Bridge was constructed, the function of Luming Suspension Bridge gradually diminished, but it remains an important access route for Hongye Village and the mountainous areas of Yanping Township. Locally, it is often referred to as the "Old Luming Suspension Bridge" or "Old Luming Bridge." In 2003, it was designated as a historical building by the Taitung County Government. Under the planning of the Yanping Township Office, it was renovated into the "Luming Suspension Bridge Scenic Recreation Area," featuring pedestrian viewing areas, observation decks, and various other facilities. Luming Suspension Bridge is not just a bridge; it encompasses many historical, cultural, and local stories, carrying the memories of many elder Taitung residents and contributing to the economic development of Taitung. Today, we can still stand on the bridge and reminisce about its past splendor. Here, in the absence of tourist noise, we are surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, making it an excellent place for a leisurely stroll, which can also be combined with nearby hot spring resorts or hotels for a relaxing retreat.
