Luming Suspension Bridge Recreation Area Introduction
Luming Suspension Bridge is located in Yanping Township, Taitung, at the junction of Yanping, Luye, and Beinan Townships. Built in 1960, it was one of the main bridges on the old Provincial Highway 9 and is a steel cable suspension bridge approximately 100 meters long. After the new Luming Bridge was constructed in 1984, which redirected and straightened Provincial Highway 9, the function of Luming Suspension Bridge was gradually replaced. However, it remains an important access road for Hongye Village and the mountainous areas of Yanping Township, often referred to by locals as the "Old Luming Suspension Bridge" or "Old Luming Bridge." In 2003, it was designated as a historical building by the Taitung County Government, and under the planning of the Yanping Township Office, it was renovated into the "Luming Suspension Bridge Scenic Recreation Area," featuring facilities such as a pedestrian viewing area and observatory. Luming Suspension Bridge is not just a bridge; it encompasses many historical, cultural, and local stories, carrying the memories of many elderly residents of Taitung and contributing to the economic development of the area. Today, we can still stand on the bridge and reminisce about its past glory. With fewer tourists’ clamor, it offers beautiful natural scenery, making it a great place for leisurely walks and a perfect complement to the nearby hot spring hotels or inns for a relaxing trip.
