Luming Bridge Scenic Recreation Area Introduction
Luming Suspension Bridge is located in Yanping Township, Taitung County, at the confluence of Yanping, Ludao, and Beinan Townships. Built in 1959, it was one of the main bridges on the old Taiwan Route 9 and is a steel cable suspension bridge approximately 100 meters long. After Taiwan Route 9 was realigned in 1984 and the new Luming Bridge was constructed, the function of Luming Suspension Bridge was gradually replaced. However, it remains an important access road for Hongye Village and the mountainous areas of Yanping Township, often referred to by locals as the "Old Luming Suspension Bridge" or "Old Luming Bridge." In 2003, it was designated as a historic building by the Taitung County Government and was later renovated under the planning of the Yanping Township Office to become the "Luming Suspension Bridge Scenic Recreation Area," featuring pedestrian observation areas, viewing platforms, and other facilities. Luming Suspension Bridge is more than just a bridge; it encompasses numerous histories, cultural narratives, and local stories, carrying the memories of many old Taitung residents and contributing to the economic development of Taitung. Today, we can still stand on the bridge and reminisce about its former glory. It lacks the hustle and bustle of tourists but is rich in beautiful natural scenery, making it a great place for leisurely walks. It can also be combined with nearby hot spring resorts or hotels for a relaxing hot spring experience.
