Luming Suspension Bridge Scenic Recreation Area Introduction
The Lu Ming Suspension Bridge is located in Yanping Township, Taitung, at the intersection of Yanping, Luye, and Beinan Townships. Built in 1959, it was once one of the main bridges on the old Taiwan Provincial Highway 9, featuring a length of approximately 100 meters and designed as a cable-stayed bridge. After the realignment of Highway 9 in 1984 and the construction of the new Lu Ming Bridge, the function of the Lu Ming Suspension Bridge gradually diminished, but it still serves as an important access road for residents of Hongye Village and the mountainous areas of Yanping Township. Locals often refer to it as the "Old Lu Ming Suspension Bridge" or "Old Lu Ming Bridge." In 2003, it was designated as a historical building by the Taitung County Government, and under the planning of the Yanping Township Office, it was renovated into the "Lu Ming Suspension Bridge Scenic Recreation Area," which includes facilities such as a pedestrian viewing area and observation platforms. The Lu Ming Suspension Bridge is not just a bridge; it embodies many historical and cultural stories of the local people, carrying the memories of many older residents of Taitung and contributing to the economic development of the region. Today, we can still stand on the bridge and reminisce about its past grandeur. Here, the absence of tourist hustle and bustle allows for the appreciation of beautiful natural scenery, making it a great place for a leisurely stroll. It can also be combined with nearby hot spring resorts or hotels for a relaxing trip to soak and unwind.
