Luming Suspension Bridge Scenic Area Introduction
The Lu Ming Suspension Bridge is located in Yanping Township, Taitung, at the confluence of Yanping, Luye, and Beinan townships. Built in 1959, it was once one of the main bridges on the old Taiwan Highway 9 and is a steel cable suspension bridge approximately 100 meters long. After the Taiwan Highway 9 was realigned in 1984 and the new Lu Ming Bridge was constructed, the function of the Lu Ming Suspension Bridge gradually diminished. However, it still serves as an important access road for Hongye Village and the mountainous areas of Yanping Township, often referred to by locals as the "Old Lu Ming Suspension Bridge" or "Old Lu Ming Bridge." In 2003, it was designated as a historical building by the Taitung County Government and was subsequently transformed into the "Lu Ming Suspension Bridge Scenic Recreational Area" under the planning of Yanping Township Office, featuring pedestrian viewpoints, observation decks, and other facilities. The Lu Ming Suspension Bridge is not just a bridge; it embodies many historical, cultural, and local stories, carrying the memories of many elderly residents of Taitung and contributing to the economic development of the area. Today, visitors can still stand on the bridge and reminisce about its former glory. Here, the hustle and bustle of tourists is absent, replaced by beautiful natural scenery, making it a great place for a leisurely walk. It can also be paired with nearby hot spring resorts or hotels for a relaxing, leisurely bathing experience.
