Luming Suspension Bridge Scenic Recreation Area Introduction
Luming Suspension Bridge is located in Yanping Township, Taitung, at the confluence of Yanping, Luye, and Beinan Townships. Built in 1959, it was once one of the main bridges on the old Taiwan Provincial Highway 9 and is a steel cable suspension bridge approximately 100 meters long. After the rerouting of Highway 9 in 1984 and the construction of the new Luming Bridge, the function of Luming Suspension Bridge gradually diminished, but it still serves as an important access road for Hongye Village and the mountainous areas of Yanping Township. Locally, it is often referred to as the "Old Luming Suspension Bridge" or "Old Luming Bridge." In 2003, it was designated as a historical building by the Taitung County Government and was later renovated under the planning of the Yanping Township Office to become the "Luming Suspension Bridge Scenic Recreation Area," which includes facilities such as a pedestrian viewing area and an observation deck. The Luming Suspension Bridge is not just a bridge; it encompasses numerous historical, cultural, and local stories, carrying many memories of the older residents of Taitung and contributing to the economic development of the region. Today, we can still stand on the bridge and reminisce about its former glory. Here, the absence of tourist noise is replaced by beautiful natural scenery, making it a great place for a leisurely stroll, and it can be combined with nearby hot spring hotels or inns for a relaxing getaway experience.
