Carp Mountain Park Introduction
Cihyu Mountain offers a great view and is the largest recreational green space in Taitung City. Surrounded by the sea, visitors can gaze at Orchid Island and Green Island from the mountain top on a clear day. According to legend, Cihyu Mountain was formed by two fish, which would move at night. The gold and silver treasures hidden in the mountain were later excavated by the Dutch, leaving behind two large caves near the present railway, known as the fish eyes of Cihyu Mountain. With the fish losing its eyes, it was fixed in place. From the bottom of the mountain looking up, the bright red Longfeng Temple stands out prominently. In 1968, during the foundation excavation, the location of Longfeng Temple gained fame for the prehistoric stone coffins and artifacts that were discovered. Other ancient relics are found within Cihyu Mountain Park, including monuments, air-raid shelters, the Martyrs' Shrine, bunkers, and artillery fortifications, adding a solemn and nostalgic feeling to this originally quiet location. On the large slope in front of the Martyrs' Shrine, it’s common to see vendors selling familiar snacks or simple toys during holidays or festive occasions, creating joyful memories for many residents of Taitung. From the top of Cihyu Mountain, the orderly streets of Taitung City stretch out below, and looking further, the Pacific Ocean unfolds in a rich array of blues, shimmering at the horizon.
