Carp Mountain Park Introduction
Liyu Mountain offers a great view and is the largest recreational green space in Taitung City. Surrounded by the sea, on clear days, one can gaze out to Orchid Island and Green Island from the mountain's peak. Legend has it that Liyu Mountain is formed by two fish, which move at night, and that the treasures hidden within the mountain were dug up by the Dutch, leaving behind the two large caves next to the current railway, known as the Fish Eyes of Liyu Mountain. When the fish lost its eyes, it was fixed in place. Looking up from the base of the mountain, the bright red Lungfeng Temple is quite eye-catching. In 1968, the location of Lungfeng Temple gained attention when prehistoric stone coffins and stone artifacts were unearthed during the foundation excavation. Liyu Mountain Park also features other ancient relics, such as monuments, air-raid shelters, the Martyrs' Shrine, bunkers, and artillery platforms, adding a sense of solemnity and nostalgia to this originally quiet place. The long slope in front of the Martyrs' Shrine often sees vendors lining the path selling familiar snacks or simple toys on holidays, with lovely children walking and running, creating many cherished memories for most residents of Taitung. From the peak of Liyu Mountain, the orderly streets of Taitung City are laid out below, and further in the distance, the Pacific Ocean is fully visible, with rich layers of blue shimmering on the horizon.
