Bau Town Art and Culture Center Introduction
The Baodong Cultural and Creative Center is located on Zhongshan Road in Taitung City. It was originally the mayor's residence during the Japanese colonial period, exuding a nostalgic atmosphere. The Baodong Cultural and Creative Center is now a small cultural park, with indoor spaces designated for art exhibitions and various static and dynamic cultural performances, providing citizens with a place for relaxation and recreation. The term "Baodong" originates from the Amis language "Paoson" or "Paposogan," meaning a place with small hills. It is one of the earliest developed areas in Taitung City, with records of the Pingpu people living here during the Qing Dynasty's Daoguang period, and Han settlers arriving by the end of the Tongzhi period. The existing wooden dormitories were built in 1936. Although they had fallen into disrepair over the years, government efforts have restored them, breathing new life into these old buildings. A short walk from the Baodong Cultural and Creative Center will take visitors to the Beidong Japanese dormitory building complex or Baosang Townhouse, where they can also admire the beauty of the Japanese wooden architecture.
