Baodang Cultural and Creative Center Introduction
The Bao Town Art and Cultural Center is located on Zhongshan Road in Taitung City and was originally part of a mayor's residence complex from the Japanese colonial period, exuding a strong nostalgic atmosphere. The Bao Town Art and Cultural Center is now a small art and cultural park, with indoor spaces used for art exhibitions and various dynamic and static cultural performance activities, providing a space for citizens to relax and enjoy. The term "Bao Town" comes from the Amis language "Paoson" or "Paposogan," meaning a place with small hills, and is one of the earliest developed areas in Taitung City, with records of indigenous Puyuma people residing there during the Daoguang era and Han Chinese settling there by the end of the Tongzhi era. The existing wooden dormitories were built in 1936; although they had fallen into disrepair over the years, government restoration efforts have breathed new life into the old buildings. A short walk from the Bao Town Art and Cultural Center to the Beicao Japanese dormitory complex or the Baosang Town House takes only a few minutes, allowing visitors to appreciate the elegance of Japanese wooden architecture.
