Dragon Head Rock Introduction
The geological layers of Lanyu are predominantly composed of amphibole andesite lava and basaltic conglomerates, along with Pleistocene red soil layers, uplifted coral reefs, and Holocene alluvial, colluvial, and coastal fringe reefs. Over time, the natural processes of erosion and weathering have sculpted Lanyu's most fascinating rock formations. Longtou Rock is formed from a large uplifted coral reef that has gradually taken on its current shape due to natural sea erosion and weathering. The Tao people (Yami people) refer to Longtou Rock as ji-mazicing, meaning the rock is sharp and irregular, forming pitted and jagged walls. The waters near Longtou Rock are an important and rich fishing ground for the people of Lanyu, and local fishermen can often be seen fishing and angling. More travel information for Lanyu.
