Lanyu Weather Station Introduction
Lanyu Weather Station is located at an elevation of approximately 324 meters. It was built during the Japanese colonial period, forcibly constructed by the Japanese government using the local Tao people (formerly known as the Yami people). During World War II, it was bombed by Allied forces, resulting in partial damage, and the main building and office walls still bear bullet marks to this day. After renovations, the main building has been entirely repainted white. The Lanyu Weather Station is situated at a high point, offering an elevation that provides a 360-degree panoramic view. To the east, one can overlook Dongqing Bay and the old Bunun village; to the west, Bada Bay is visible; and to the south, one can see the rolling mountains and dense forests, providing almost a complete overview of Orchid Island. This location is also an excellent spot for watching the sunrise, as its high elevation allows for a beautiful view of the sun rising near the horizon.
