Lanyu Weather Station Introduction
Lanyu Weather Station, situated at an altitude of approximately 324 meters, is a structure from the Japanese colonial period, built by the Taiwanese Governor-General's Office using forced labor from the indigenous Tao people (formerly known as the Yami). During World War II, it was bombed by Allied forces, resulting in partial damage, and bullet marks are still visible on the walls of the main building and offices. After renovations, the main building has been entirely painted white. Located at a high point, Lanyu Weather Station offers a lofty position with a panoramic 360-degree view; to the east, it overlooks Dongqing Bay and the Yeyin old village, to the west, it provides a bird's-eye view of Badawan, and to the south, it features an expanse of mountains and dense forests, allowing for nearly a complete view of Lanyu Island. This site is also an excellent spot to watch the sunrise, as its elevation provides a beautiful view of the sun rising near the horizon.
