Lanyu Meteorological Station Introduction
Lanyu Weather Station is located at an elevation of approximately 324 meters. It was built during the Japanese colonial period and was constructed by the local Tao people (formerly known as the Yami people) under compulsory requisition by the Taiwan Governor-General. During World War II, it was bombed by Allied forces, resulting in partial damage, and bullet marks are still visible on the walls of the main building and office. After renovation, the main structure now has a completely white exterior. The Lanyu Weather Station is situated at a high point, offering a lofty terrain with a panoramic 360-degree view. To the east, you can overlook Dongqing Bay and the Old Yeyin Village, to the west is a bird's-eye view of Badawan, and to the south, the continuous mountain ranges and dense forests come into sight, encompassing almost the entire island of Lanyu. This location is also an excellent spot for viewing the sunrise, as its elevated position allows for a beautiful view of the rising sun over the ocean horizon.
