Lanyu Meteorological Station Introduction
Lanyu Weather Station is situated at an altitude of approximately 324 meters. This building, constructed during the Japanese colonial period, was forcibly built by the indigenous Tao people (formerly known as the Yami people) under the orders of the Taiwan Governor-General. It was partially damaged during World War II when it was bombed by Allied forces, leaving bullet marks on the walls of the main building and office, which are still visible today. After renovations, the main structure has been entirely painted white. Located at a high vantage point, Lanyu Weather Station offers a breathtaking 360-degree view. To the east, you can overlook Dongqing Bay and the old town of Yeyin, while the west provides a bird's-eye view of Badou Bay. To the south, the rolling mountains and dense forests stretch out, allowing for nearly a panoramic view of Orchid Island. This site is also an excellent spot for sunrise viewing, as the elevated position allows for a beautiful view of the sunrise rising close to sea level.
