Lanyu Weather Station Introduction
Lanyu Meteorological Station is situated at an altitude of approximately 324 meters. It was built during the Japanese colonial period, forcibly constructed by the Taiwan Governor-General's Office with the labor of the indigenous Dawu people (formerly known as the Yami). During World War II, it was bombed by Allied forces, resulting in partial damage, and bullet marks still remain on the walls of the main building and office. After renovation, the main structure has been completely painted white. Located at a high vantage point, Lanyu Meteorological Station offers a stunning 360-degree view: to the east, one can overlook Dongqing Bay and the old settlement of Yeyin; to the west, there is a vantage point over Badawan; to the south, the rolling mountains and dense forests can be seen, allowing for nearly a complete view of Lanyu Island. This site is also an excellent spot for sunrise watching, as its elevated terrain provides a beautiful view of the rising sun close to sea level.
