Mijian Ancient Trail Introduction
Located at the 42 kilometer mark of Provincial Highway 193, beside Mican Elementary School, there is an ancient path with a history of over a century waiting for modern visitors. The Mican Ancient Trail was an early route connecting Shuilian and Shoufeng Township along the eastern coast (across the Central Mountain Range). Villagers would carry rice on their shoulders to Mican Village, fostering the "porters" profession and creating a unique culture for the porters of the Mican Ancient Trail. The original 7-kilometer path fell into disrepair due to road transportation, but later, the Mican Community Development Association, in pursuit of their ancestors' routes, constructed bamboo and wooden railings and water diversion holes. The trail retains its natural essence, and the newly rebuilt Mican Ancient Trail, at an elevation of 415 meters and a total length of 1,700 meters, offers a short, yet strenuous hike that leaves one drenched in sweat, akin to a full-body forest bath. Reaching the ridge, one can see the winding Mugua Creek nestled in the embrace of the valley, presenting another breathtaking view; along the way, the clear calls of various birds often drown out any fatigue in the legs.
