Mi Zhan Ancient Trail Introduction
Next to Mijian Elementary School at the 42-kilometer mark of Highway 193, there is an ancient trail with a history of over a century waiting for modern visitors. The Mijian Old Trail was an early connecting path between Shui-Luan and Shoufeng Township along the eastern coast, traversing the Coastal Mountain Range. Villagers would carry rice to the Mijian Village on their shoulders, giving rise to the occupation of "porters" and creating a unique culture of the Mijian Old Trail porters. Originally seven kilometers long, the old trail fell into disuse due to road traffic. Later, the Mijian Community Development Association, using materials sourced locally while retracing the path of their ancestors, completed bamboo and wood railing facilities as well as drainage holes. The pathway retains its natural flavor, with the Mijian Old Trail rebuilt to a length of 1,700 meters at an altitude of 415 meters. Although the trail is not long, descending it will still leave one sweating profusely, feeling as if they have taken a forest bath. Reaching the ridge, the Papaya Creek can be seen winding through the embrace of the longitudinal valley, revealing yet another landscape. Along the way, the crisp calls of various bird species occasionally break the silence, making one forget their tired legs.
