Mizhan Ancient Trail Introduction
Located at the 42-kilometer mark on Highway 193, next to Mizan Elementary School, there lies an ancient trail with a history of over a century, waiting for modern visitors. The Mizan Ancient Trail served as a connecting road between Shuilian and Shoufeng Township along the east coast (crossing the Coastal Mountain Range). Villagers historically carried rice on their shoulders to Mizan Village, which fostered the profession of "porters," creating a unique culture associated with the Mizan Ancient Trail. Originally seven kilometers long, the trail fell into disrepair due to road traffic; however, the Mizan Community Development Association, while seeking to honor their ancestors, constructed bamboo and wooden railings and drainage holes using local materials. The trail now showcases its natural essence, having been rebuilt to a length of 1,700 meters at an elevation of 415 meters. Although the trail is not long, the journey will still leave you sweating, as if you’ve taken a forest bath. Upon reaching the ridge, you'll see the winding Mugua River nestled in the embrace of the valley, presenting a different view; along the way, the harmonious calls of various birds often remind you to forget about the fatigue in your legs.
