Mi Zhan Ancient Trail Introduction
Next to Mi-zhan Elementary School at the 42-kilometer mark of Highway 193, an ancient path with a century-old history awaits modern visitors. The Mi-zhan Ancient Trail was an early connecting road between the coastal areas of Shui-lien and Shou-feng Township (crossing the Coastal Mountain Range). Villagers would carry rice to Mi-zhan Village, fostering the "porter" profession, which led to the unique culture of porters along the Mi-zhan Ancient Trail. The original seven-kilometer trail fell into disrepair due to the development of road transportation. Later, the Mi-zhan Community Development Association rebuilt the trail using materials sourced locally while seeking the path of their ancestors, installing bamboo and wood railings and drainage holes. The trail now showcases its natural essence, rebuilt to a length of 1,700 meters at an elevation of 415 meters. Although the trail is not long, completing it will still leave you sweating, as if you've had a forest bath. At the ridge, you can see the Papaya Creek meandering in the embrace of the valley, presenting another beautiful scenery; along the way, various birds sing cheerfully, making you forget about your tired legs.
