Mizhan Ancient Trail Introduction
Located next to Mizhan Elementary School at kilometer 42 on Provincial Highway 193, there is an ancient path with a history of over a hundred years, waiting for modern visitors. The Mizhan Ancient Trail was originally a connecting road between Shui-Lian and Shoufeng Township along the East Coast (crossing the Coastal Mountain Range). Villagers used to carry rice on their shoulders to Mizhan Village, which led to the emergence of the "porter" profession and the unique culture of the Mizhan Ancient Trail porters. The original seven-kilometer ancient trail was abandoned due to road transportation. Later, the Mizhan Community Development Association, in seeking the paths of their ancestors, created bamboo and wooden railing facilities and water drainage holes on-site, allowing the trail to present its natural essence. The revived Mizhan Ancient Trail, which is at an elevation of 415 meters and is 1,700 meters long, may not be long, but walking it can still leave one drenched in sweat, akin to a full-body forest bath. Upon reaching the ridge, one can see the winding Mugua Stream nestled in the embrace of the valley, offering a different scenery; along the way, the crisp calls of various birds can occasionally be heard, making one forget the fatigue in their legs.
