Shuilian, Niushan Coast Introduction
Shuilyan is located in the coastal area of Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, surrounded by lush green hills and a wide river valley basin, with the Shuilyan River meandering through. The Shuilyan Wetlands and Niushan Coast resemble a seaside secret paradise. Here, you can enjoy wading in the waves, beach activities, and leisurely fishing. Additionally, this coastal area is rich in ecological resources, and the coastal plant forest is an excellent spot to observe the ecological characteristics of the East Coast. Hiking, strolling, birdwatching, and butterfly watching are all wonderful choices. You can bask in the expansive coastal grassland under the blue sky, white clouds, and sunlight, where time seems to stand still. Niushan Huting derives its name from the Niushan located on the southern beach of Shuilyan. The Amis people call it Huting, which means a pasture of vast grasslands. Niushan has a unique topography; most notably, the southern shore features hill-like terraces, which were once grazing areas for water buffaloes. In spring, the slopes are adorned with blooming Taiwanese lilies, making it a habitat for wild lilies. The plant community at Niushan is diverse, almost a miniature version of the East Coast plant life, and it has been included in Taiwan's coastal protected area program as a nature reserve since 1990. In winter, the beach of Shuilyan Niushan sings—during spring and summer, the beach is soft and warm, perfect for walking barefoot. As the sea breeze gently blows, you feel as if you are in "Cape Paradise," leisurely enjoying life. When the northeast monsoon arrives, the long beach undergoes transformations as fine sand turns into smooth, colorful pebbles, arranged in an orderly manner on the beach. The waves surge, pushing the pebbles towards the shore; when the waves recede, the pebbles roll down the slant of the beach, creating sounds of varying frequencies. Locals say that in winter, the beach of Shuilyan Niushan sings. Leave your heart at the coastline—Starry Sky Camping. Niushan also offers small wooden cabins for simple accommodation, and camping is another option. Lying under the starry sky, with starlight imprinted in your eyes, listening to the sound of the tide as you fall asleep, you may inadvertently leave a piece of your heart along the coastline.
