Sweet Potato Hill Introduction
Fanshuliao, located next to Bridge No. 18 on Coastal Highway, is the most unique canyon landscape on the East Coast. Here, one can observe the contrast in terrain formed by the deposition and cutting actions of streams on both sides of the road due to different geological features. On the west side of the highway, gentle rolling hills and valleys spread out, where flat river terraces are dotted with farmland and farmhouses; while the Fanshuliao Creek flowing through Bridge No. 18 is flanked by steep gorges nearly a hundred meters deep, reminiscent of Taroko Gorge. From the observation deck, one can gaze down into the deep valley, with steep rock walls and lush greenery. The Eastern District Office has set up a rest area here, equipped with a parking lot, wooden railings, tidy landscaping, a simple yet charming observation deck, and public restrooms. In front of the rest area, there is also a shop offering cold and hot drinks.
