Niu Shan Coastal Water Lilies Wetland Introduction
Shuilyuan is located in the Shoufeng Township of Hualien County, embraced by lush hills and a wide river valley basin. The Shuilyuan Creek meanders through this area, which is a community of diverse ethnic groups, rich in natural resources, unique geological landscapes, and precious tourist assets such as wildlife ecology and indigenous cultures. To the south of Shuilyuan lies Niu Mountain, known as Hudin (呼定) in the Amis language, meaning a large grassy meadow pasture. Niu Mountain features a unique terrain, most notably the small terraces on the south side, which were once grazing areas for water buffalo. In spring, the mountainsides are adorned with blooming Taiwan lilies, making it a native habitat for wild lilies. The plant diversity at Niu Mountain is rich, nearly a microcosm of the eastern coastal flora, and has been designated as a natural ecological reserve. The most attractive aspect from Shuilyuan to Niu Mountain is the stretch of beach that extends for several kilometers. In spring and summer, the soft and warm beach invites barefoot strolls, as the gentle sea breeze blows, creating an atmosphere akin to "Cape Paradise," promoting relaxation and ease. In autumn and winter, the beach is covered with colorful pebbles, rolling with the waves, creating a breathtaking sight.
