Niu-Shan Coast Shui-Lian Wetland Introduction
Shuilyuan is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, along the coastline, embraced by lush hills surrounding a wide river valley basin. The Shuilyuan River winds through the area, which is a community where multiple ethnic groups blend together. The region boasts rich natural resources, unique geological landscapes, and precious tourism assets, including diverse flora and fauna as well as indigenous cultures. To the south of Shuilyuan lies Niu Mountain, known as Hudin (呼定) in the Amis language, which means a large grassland pasture. Niu Mountain features a unique terrain, with the most distinctive aspect being the small terraces on the southern shore that were once grazing fields for water buffalo. In spring, the slopes bloom with Taiwan lilies, making it a natural habitat for wild lilies. The plant diversity at Niu Mountain is rich, essentially a microcosm of the eastern coast's vegetation, and it has been designated as a nature reserve. From Shuilyuan to Niu Mountain, the most captivating feature is the stretch of beach that extends for several kilometers. In spring and summer, the beach is soft and warm, allowing for barefoot walks on the sand while the gentle sea breeze caresses you, creating a feeling of being in a "paradise at the cape," where one can relax and enjoy leisurely moments. In autumn and winter, the beach is adorned with colorful pebbles that roll with the waves, creating a picturesque scene.
