Niushan Coastal Wetlands Introduction
Shuilian is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, nestled between lush hills and a wide river valley basin, with the Shuilian Creek winding through it. It is a community of diverse ethnic groups, rich in natural resources, unique geological landscapes, and precious tourism assets such as flora, fauna, and indigenous cultures. To the south of Shuilian Beach lies Niushan, known as Hudin (呼定) in the Amis language, meaning a vast grassland pasture. Niushan features unique terrain, with the most distinctive aspect being the small terraced steps on the southern shore, once a grazing area for water buffalo. In spring, the mountainsides bloom with Taiwan lilies, making it a native habitat for wild lilies. The flora of Niushan is abundant, almost a microcosm of the eastern coastal plant community, and has been designated as a nature reserve. The most attractive aspect from Shuilian to Niushan is the several kilometers of beach, with the spring and summer sands soft and warm, where one can stroll barefoot, with the sea breeze gently blowing, reminiscent of a "Paradise at the Cape," relaxed and carefree. In autumn and winter, the beach is covered with colorful pebbles, rolling with the waves, a breathtaking sight.
