Niushan Hecao Shuilian Wetland Introduction
Shuilyan is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, nestled between lush hills and a vast river valley. The Shuilyan River meanders through the area, which is a community where multiple ethnic groups converge. The region boasts abundant natural resources, unique geological landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, as well as precious tourist assets rooted in indigenous culture. To the south of Shuilyan is Niushan, known as Hudin (呼定) in the Amis language, which means "a large grassland pasture." Niushan features unique topography, with the most remarkable aspect being the moving small terraces on the southern shore, which were once pastures for water buffalo. In spring, the slopes are adorned with blooming Taiwan lilies, making it a native habitat for wild lilies. The plant community on Niushan is rich and serves as a microcosm of the eastern coastal flora, designated as a natural ecological conservation area. The most captivating aspect from Shuilyan to Niushan is the continuous stretch of beach that extends for several kilometers. During spring and summer, the beach is soft and warm, perfect for barefoot strolls on the sand with the gentle sea breeze, creating an atmosphere akin to "Cape Paradise," where one can feel relaxed and at ease. In autumn and winter, the beach is covered with colorful pebbles that roll with the waves, providing a stunning sight.
